Windows 7 cannot join domain (server 2003) while Windows xp does
Windows 7 cannot join domain that is installed on Windows server 2003 while Windows xp does. I get "an attempt to resolve the dns name of a domain controller in the domain being joined has failed". I did the following: "in the network adapter IP 4 properties, set the DNS ip address to that of the domain controller, NOT the DNS" it did not help, also unchecking the IPv6 did not help

After you set the Client DNS settings, did you flush your DNS cache (ipconfig /flushdns)? Then make sure you are able to resolve host names in that zone from this client using NSLOOKUP. Visit: anITKB.com, an IT Knowledge Base.

Question: Is your DC actually running DNS or are you just getting DHCP and DNS info from your router? You'll need to set up DNS on one of your DCs and point your DNS to that in order to get Windows 7 to join the domain.
