Windows 7 cannot access vista
Basic problem: W7 cannot access shared folders on one vista machine even though it can on another vista machine. When w7 tries to access shared files on the unfriendly vista, I get the "Enter Network Password" prompt. No username/password combination
will work. Both machines have idential username & password.
Details:
v1 (vista machine #1) can access shared files on v2. No "Enter Network Password" prompt.
v1 & v2 can access shared files on w7. No "Enter Network Password" prompt.
w7 can access shared files on v2. No "Enter Network Password" prompt.
w7 cannot access shared files on v1. "Enter Network Password" always pops up.
No username/password combination works.
All three machines share identical username/password.
very strange.
Originally, w7 could get to shared files on all vistas. However, v1 experienced a head crash, so I ordered a new disk. Ordered recovery DD from machine manufacturer (HP). Reinstalled vista on v1. Performed all updates. After
that, w7 will not access shared files.
I have enabled password sharing, and disabled it. No effect.
I have turned guest account on on both machines. No effect.
Folder on v1 is shared to the common username on all machines. Like I said, v2 has no problem getting to the folder on v1.
How can I make w7 access v1?
Thanks,
Mark

Also, I have turned firewalls (Norton Internet Security) on and off on both machines. No effect.

Should say "Ordered recovery DVD" in the text above.

Workgroups are set to identical value on all machines.
