Windows 7 can not access shares on MacOS X 10.5.x hosts running samba.
Hello all,I've noticed a rather large issue that I'm having ever since beginning to work with Windows 7 - I can no longer access MacOS X shares from the Windows 7 (x64) desktop. However, I can access the Windows 7 shares from OS X. Although I can see the OS X machine in Network, I get the following error after double clicking on the system's icon:Windows cannot access \\[MACHINE NAME HERE]Error code: 0x80070035The network path was not found.Checking ipconfig /all says:Node Type: Hybridand NetBIOS Over Tcpip: EnabledTrying to map the network drive to a drive letter did not work either. Putting in the proper username and password when requested did not work as well. This is over a wired GigE LAN connection. Network card is an integrated Intel 82566DC. On the Mac side of things, I am running OS X 10.5.6 which includes Samba 3.0.25b-apple, which is obviously an Apple customized version. We have a Cisco router running DHCP for all clients.Any insight would be welcome! -- Brielle Bruns

I'm afraid I can't be of much help other than to confirm you're not alone with this problem. Samba shares are inaccessible for me also. I'm running 10.5.6 over a wireless connection through a Netgear DSG834G v3.I've reported the fault to Microsoft this morning.

I'm having the exact same problem connecting to my iMac 10.5.6 from my Windows 7 PC laptop. I can see the shared files on windows 7 from my Mac but not the other way. I've posted several threads on other sites and no one seems to have this setup working. Home network consists of iMac running OS 10.5.6 and Windows Vista SP1 wired to Linksys WRT160N router, HP dv6325us laptop running Windows 7 and Windows Vista SP1 (no problem connecting to iMac from Vista) and Mac 12" Power Book running 10.5.6. All are setup with DHCP.Thanks for any help on this

Same here.Aluminium iMac on Gigabit network with Netgear switch and wireless router. iMac can access Win7 machine; Win7 machine sees iMac, but won't connect to shares.John Colombo

I am having the same problem. Both my Mac Mini and my Macbook (both running 10.5.6) cannot be accessed from the Windows 7 machine. However Both Mac's can access shared folders on the Windows Machine.

I was finally able to get it to work with the help of the is thread. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itpronetworking/thread/4606ad12-1f23-4231-8597-8e515422d57dHope this helps!

That secpol change 'fixed' the problem. Of course, it would be nice if MS could make the security level slightly more permissive, considering not everyone is going to have the latest and greatest Win Vista or Win7 right away.:/ -- Brielle Bruns

The secpol change didn't work for me, but I'm not getting the same error as you. My error is Error 50, whatever that means. I also tried to add the user's credentials (same user account, same password anyway but you never know...) in Credential Manager and that didn't help either.
