Windows 7 can't see all domain computers
Hi guys, I have a windows 7 pro that is connected to the domain, but it has a lot of issues, it can discover only about 5 machines from about 50. Also no one in the network can access in through LAN although it can join the domain with no problem. I tried lot of things like: - Rejoin it to the domain. - Rename PC name before rejoin it to the domain. - Remove all profiles and create new ones. - Remove DNS entry and AD computer entry regarding this machine. ------------ I think it is a system problem not a network problem, but i don't wanna reinstall the system as i have a lot of licenses for it and it is hard to reset these licenses again. So, What should i do to resolve this issue. If anyone has any idea, I'll be grateful. Best Regards

Hi, Please refer and the the following: The machine may be hidden from NetBIOS browsing. Run the command "net config server" at the command prompt on the system missing from the browse list. Is the "Server hidden" setting set to "Yes"? If so, this is why the system is missing in the browse list. To unhide the computer from the browser list, type "net config server /hidden:no" (without the quotation marks) at the command prompt on the missing system. If the missing system is a Windows NT 4.0 system, check the length of the server comment. When the server comment is greater than 48 characters, the server name may disappear from the browsing list. The server comment may be displayed by typing the following command at an MS-DOS command prompt: "net config server" (without the quotation marks). The server comment may be set by typing the following command at a command prompt: "net config server /srvcomment:"text"" (without the quotation marks). If all machines on one segment disappear then the problem is probably with the SMB on that segment. If random machines from different subnets seem to disappear the problem may be with the DMB. Verify that the SMB is receiving the Host announcements from the client machine. Take a network trace while you restart the computer browser service on the problem client. You should see a Host announcement from the client. Check for third party applications or processes that may be blocking the NetBIOS datagrams from the client to the SMB or from the SMD to DMB (Firewall, AV, NIC Teaming, etc.). Ensure that the DMB is the only one machine is winning the master browser election on it’s segment and is a stable master browser. Look for event 8003 or review the elections within a trace. DMB may be receiving forced browser elections or master announcements from other servers causing the domain list to reset when a new election is initiated. Verify that the Routers on the network are not configured to forward UDP broadcasts. Forwarding UDP broadcasts cause the entire network to appear as one logical subnet to browsers. This will cause browser election problems, indicated by 8003 events. Verify the DMB is not multi-homed. A multihomed segment master browser would be a system with Netbt bound to more than one network interface including RAS/RRAS servers. Multihomed systems should not be allowed to hold a master browser role. If possible disable the additional interfaces or move the PDC/PDC emulator role to a different machine. Intermittent network connectivity from the machine to the SMB or from the SMB to the DMB may be the issue. The local segment browse list may not be correct or the domain server list may not be getting updated consistently from that segment. Ensure IP subnet masks are consistently set on all the systems on the subnet/network. Different subnet masks will cause machines to use different broadcast addresses. This will effect name announcements and browser elections. Verify switch port and client NIC configuration settings. Switches and client NICs should be consistently set to Auto, full-duplex or half duplex, but not mixed. Try resolving unstable segment browsing issues by manually controlling which machines participate in browsing elections. Set all machines to not maintain a server list except for a few stable servers (1 per 32 machines). HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\ SYSTEM\\ CurrentControlSet\\ Services\\ Browser\\ Parameters\\MaintainServerList= “false or no” to disable. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\ SYSTEM\\ CurrentControlSet\\ Services\\ Browser\\ Parameters\\IsDomainMaster=”true or yes” to encourage a machine to win browsing elections. Hi Meneim, I agree it's a system problem, because you are able to join the domain, so the network is ok. It sounds like network discovery or firewall (or maybe AV?). See the following on how to check if network discovery is turned on: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Enable-or-disable-network-discovery Check the Network Location: Make sure it is Identified as somedomain.com. Try disabling the firewall on the problem machine. If you found this post helpful, please give it a "Helpful" vote. If it answered your question, remember to mark it as an "Answer".

Hi Bigteddy, Since Meneim said the machine can discover 5 machines in domain, I suspect the network discovery is enable. I find this article in a friend's work diary. I think many issue could this problem. I'm not sure but I hoep it would be helpful for in this problem. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Hi! I had the same problem. I set the ethernet card to get gw, ip and netmask from the DHCP server against the static addresses. After this the problem solved. best regards
