Windows 7 can't connect to network paths..
When we give customers access to network subfolders, they are not able to access them directly from their Windows 7 computers.
It works normally for our Windows XP users.
Example: \\fileserver1\data\finance\budget
Lets say we give the user John direct access to the "budget" folder, but he does not have any rights to the "finance" folder.
He is able to map a drive to "\\fileserver1\data\finance\budget", but he can not go directly to the drive by URL from Search, Run, or Address Bar. He also can not create a shortcut to the path.
If someone who DOES have access to the whole path (like a domain admin) creates a shortcut to the full URL and gives the shortcut file to the end user, they can access it using that file.
Is there something that can be changed to return this to Windows XP behavior, when users are able to simply go directly to the URL or create their own shortcut?

They have credentials and their AD account has access directly to the subfolder they desire. Do they need rights at every folder along the way for Windows 7?Joe S
