Windows 7 brings down router
I just purchased a Lenovo G550 with Windows 7 pre-installed for my daughter. When I connect via wireless or wired to my home network, Windows attempts to connect to the router for a few seconds, then fails. Each time it retries, the router front panel flashes furiously and all other computers on the network drop off (network cable unplugged messages). Even the router becomes unpingable. When connected via a cable the router failure is continuous, when connected wirelessly it is only during the connection attempts. As soon as the Win7 laptop is unplugged from the network or stops attempting a wireless connection the router stops flashing and the other computers can see it again. I have booted into a live Linux CD on the Lenovo, and it can connect to the router both via the wire and wirelessly without issue. Given that, it seems unlikely this is a hardware issue or an issue with my router, modem or ISP (all of which have been operating for years with Win 2000, XP and Vista, and still are). The router is a D-Link DI-524 connected to a Motorola SB4200 cable modem. Thanks.

do you have the latest firmware for the DLink router? if yes, try disabling IPv6... on the W7 NIC.Barb Bowman www.digitalmediaphile.com

The DI-524 doesn't support IPv6 at all. I installed the latest firmware (I was behind by two versions), but no change in behavior. I tried disabling IPv6 under Windows for both the wired and wireless drivers with no effect. Is there somewhere other than the adapter's connection properties where this can be done? The adapter connects to the router, gets the Lan name, showing it for about 5 seconds with a yellow exclamation point (No Internet Connection), then says the cable is unplugged. The wireless attempts go through a similar pattern, but the end up "Not Connected" and the router starts working again (with wired I must physically disconnect the wire to restore functionality). Thanks for your help.

With his permission, just tried connecting to my neighbor's wireless with the same results. He didn't know what type of router it was and I didn't see it, but it is something from HP unlikely to be the same as mine. So, it isn't the router.

KurtVon you are not the only one with this issue on those systemsgoolge Lenovo G550 + router and you will see others with the same issue.I suggest as a test you disable the wireless card and test the lan connection.

Thanks. I had googled it, but did G5550 by accident. Disabling UPNP on the router solved the issue (both wired and wireless). My neighbor must have it active too. Thanks.

I have a D-Link WBR-1310 router and a Motorola SBV5121 cable modem and I have had intermittent problems in trying to establish an internet connection with my XP laptop. I tried everything (within an above average layman's ability) to trouble shoot the problem with no success. I turned off the Wii's, printer, released IP's, reset everything, etc... This morning my Win 7 laptop did the same thing for the first time. I just happened upon this post and realized that I never had a problem until I installed Win 7. Don't have any ideas but at least I know there is someone else experiencing the problem.

Hey, The problem is with the readycomm software that comes bundled with the lenovo laptop. I had the same problem and I called lenovo and they asked me to remove it. After removing the problem goes away. Please try removing the readycomm software from your laptop.
