Windows 7 backup over network failing after changing router but no error message
I have a simple network of two Windows 7 PCs. A daily Windows Backup from one computer to the other was working quite OK until I recently changed the router to a Netgear one. Since then I get the message "The last scheduled backup did not run" in Action Centre but no further information. Also I cannot find any error messages in the event log. If I try to run the backup manually then nothing happens. Can anyone suggest how I can diagnose what is going on? (I have checked that I can manually copy and paste a file from one computer into the backup location on the other one - it is just that Windows Backup will not run.

I suspect that the IP information is changed after you replaced the router. You may re-create the scheduled backup and see if it works. If the issue still occurs, please confirm if it works properly after you disable the firewall. If it works, please check the configurations of the firewall. Hi Arthur, Thanks for the suggestions however I have tried to re-create the backup several times and still cannot get it to work, either scheduled or manually. Not even if I specify a different folder within the same network share. Switching off the firewall in the router also did not make any difference. The strange thing is that I can do a manual system image backup to the same network location - it is just the ordinary backup that seems to do nothing. it is frustrating that there is no error message to say what the problem is - it just does not run. Is there any way that I can remove all memory of the current backup location, etc. so that I can set it up completely from new?

The backup may be blocked by antivirus or firewall. The firewall is the most possible cause because your network information may changed after replacing the router. Also I suggest you temporarily disable the firewall on the router and check the result. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Thanks for the further suggestions but I had tried this already. Just to be sure I have now tried disabling the anti-virus on both computers and also disabling the routers firewall and setting the backup up again. Sadly, this has made no difference and I still get no error messages. I can see the backup service and associated SVCHOST process in task manager. After clicking the "backup now" button the process uses some CPU time and increases memory usage for a minute or so and then goes back to a small memory use and no CPU but no backup appears to run. It is all very frustrating!
