Windows 7 backup and restore Backing up to a domain file server
It was suggested to use Windows 7 backup and restore as a means of backing up users data to a domain network share. Since this requires local administrator rights, the thought is to use a service account to perform the backup process. My question is, if there is a need to later change the service account password and 100 users are scheduled to backup daily. Would users that have not been promptly reconfigured with the new service account password lockout the service account when their scheduled backup ran? Thanks in advance for your assistance

Hi, Why backing up with local administrator rights? Since these hundred users are domain clients, you may back up with domain admin rather than local administrator. Domain admin is also the administrator of the clients. For example: copy //ipaddress/C:/users/sourcefolder D:/targetfolder How can I copy files from computers over a network? http://www.remotedatabackups.com/kb/kb.cfm?id=63 Copy network file over command line? http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080325062306AA1Ihrr You also can manually define account lockout policies. Apply or modify account lockout policy http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc781491(v=ws.10).aspx Hope that helps. Ivan-Liu TechNet Community Support
