Windows 7 awoke itself from sleep earlier, and then wouldn't load
I placed my Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit edition in sleep mode last night when I went to bed. The computer awoke itself at 6:15 this morning, and the hard drive light and internet light on my router were flashing. I went back to sleep because I was too tired to get up and mess with it. Now, it's just after 8am and I tried to get on it by waking it from sleep which it was in once again. It wouldn't load windows and left me with a black or blank screen like happened once before about a week ago. At that time I ran the prevx tool, and haven't had another issue with the black or blank screen of Windows 7 not loading until today. I forced one shutdown and tried to start the pc again. It went past the motherboard screens, but then right to the black or blank screen with a white cursor blinking in the upper left corner. I could not do anything. I tried esc and ctl-alt-delete, but nothing happened. I forced another shutdown and same thing. I forced a third shutdown, and it showed an error message that said resume failed and I chose the option to delete the restoration and proceed to the boot loader (or something like that). Is there any fix yet on this issue? Edit: I was just looking in the event viewer, and there's some errors related to the SideBySide service for MovieMaker.exe. The error says:"Activation context generation failed for "C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Live\Photo Gallery\MovieMaker.Exe".Error in manifest or policy file "C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Live\Photo Gallery\WLMFDS.DLL" on line 8. Component identity found in manifest does not match the identity of the component requested. Reference is WLMFDS,processorArchitecture="AMD64",type="win32",version="1.0.0.1". Definition is WLMFDS,processorArchitecture="x86",type="win32",version="1.0.0.1". Please use sxstrace.exe for detailed diagnosis."****Also, I just looked in my task manager, and GoogleUpdateTaskMachineUA is set to run every hour whether the user is logged in or not, and it ran at 6:15am. I noticed a lot of items in the task manager say configured for Windows Vista rather than Windows 7. I was able to change it in the drop down menu to configure for Windows 7. Hope this info helps. Hi I would like to suggest you update the BIOS to check the issue. In addition, I also suggest you refer to the following link to check if these troubleshooting suggestions can fix the issue for you. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976877. run CMD as administrator type powercfg -devicequery wake armed. to see any devices that wakes up the system if issue persists you can also perform Clean Boot test How to perform Clean Boot: 1. Click Start, type MSCONFIG in the Search Bar and Press Enter to start the System Configuration Utility. Please click Continue if the "User Account Control" window pops up. 2. Click the Services tab, check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box and click Disable All (if it is not gray). 3. Click the Startup tab, click Disable All and click OK. 4. Restart the computer and test the issue. ==> Clean Boot is a troubleshooting step. If some programs have been disabled during the troubleshooting, we can enable them later. If there appears System Configuration Utility , check the box of "Don't show this message" and then click OK Hope it helps Nikhil

I changed the google update to run when a user logs on rather than running every hour starting at 6:13am daily whether a user is logged on or not.Desktop: New one: Antec 300, Intel Pentium Dual Core E6300 2.8GHz, Gigabyte GA-EP43-UD3L, PNY 4GB PC6400 800MHz DDR2 RAM, EVGA Nvidia GeForce 9500GT 512MB DDR2, 500GB Seagate Barracuda 7200 16MB cache, 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate, Antec Earthwatts 500 Watt PSU, Samsung SyncMaster 906BW 19" Widescreen LCD display. Does the occur if the computer is not resumed by any program, but yourself? This kind of issues can be caused by the antivirus program you installed. I suggest you temporary disable or uninstall it and check the result. If the issue persist, I suggest you upgrade your BIOS to enhancement the ACPI function for the system.Arthur Xie - MSFT

Well, I'm using Microsoft Security Essentials so I hope that's not what's causing Windows 7 these problems. I haven't had any issues since I changed the google update task.Desktop: New one: Antec 300, Intel Pentium Dual Core E6300 2.8GHz, Gigabyte GA-EP43-UD3L, PNY 4GB PC6400 800MHz DDR2 RAM, EVGA Nvidia GeForce 9500GT 512MB DDR2, 500GB Seagate Barracuda 7200 16MB cache, 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate, Antec Earthwatts 500 Watt PSU, Samsung SyncMaster 906BW 19" Widescreen LCD display. The error: Activation context generation failed for "C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Live\Photo Gallery\MovieMaker.Exe" ... is harmless and not related to your problem (See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976229/en-us ). If you do want to fix this error though just go to Control Panel > Programs & Features > double click Windows Live Essentials > Repair > Continue.
