Windows 7 and wireless access
We are a public school district using Cisco lightweight access points connected to a Cisco WLAN controller for our student and staff wireless connectivity. We use 802.1X PEAP with RADIUS authentication, WPA and TKIP. Our computers are currently running Windows XP and not having any major problems. However, we've installed Windows 7 on a couple of support staff laptops (mine, for one) and we're finding that these computers can't connect to the wireless network without disabling and re-enabling the wireless NIC (or doing the 'Repair' function). Disable/re-enable works to correct the problem, but we are planning on deploying Windows 7 in the near future and would like to find a resolution to this problem before it hits the user community. By group policy, users are prevented from accessing the network adapters for any reason, so this would be a serious drawback. Our computers are a mixture of Dell Latitudes (D505, 600, 610, 620, 630 and E6400) and Lenovo S10e netbooks. These will have either Dell, Intel or Broadcom wireless NICs installed. Has anyone seen this issue and come up with a solution? Thanks.

"can't connect"? can you explain a bit further?are you getting past the 1x auth, getting an ip?you'll likely need to examine the logs on your radius/acs/aaa as well as your ap logs (if any).are you using the supplicant from the vendor or a 3rd party supplicant/ccx like securew2?for your otp are you using mschap or gtc?cisco peap or ms peap?

Hi, Does the issue occur on certain Windows 7 machine or each Windows 7 machine? This issue can occur by incorrect Server side’s settings, incompatible NIC driver or third party programs conflict. At this stage, I suggest you try the following steps to troubleshoot the issue. 1. When the laptop cannot access Internet, please open Network and Sharing Center and use Troubleshooting tool to check whether it can find the cause. 2. Temporarily turn off firewall for a test. 3. Uninstall the Wireless NIC driver and reinstall it in Compatibility Mode. 4. Assign a static IP address and DNS address to check the result. Thanks, Novak
