Windows 7 and windows XP mixed in a domain
I Have a Windows Server 2008 DOmain controller, 15 WIndows 7 Pro, and 7 WIndows XP computers. The windows 7 computers keep losing its connection to the Database on the server, to where they use task manager to shut down the software and then sign in to it again, this happens sevral times a day. The Windows XP machines do not have any issue. The cabling is brand new CAT 6 Shielded, Switches and router are all new, I ruled out the network cards. I wiped one of the XP machines and loaded Win 7 same issue. I installed a different network card same issue. I started one of the Computers in safe mode and same issue. i brought in a totally different computer with win 7 same issue. this issue has me stumped any help would be really appreciated!!MCSE (NT4)

Hi, Thanks for the post! Is there any error message on your domain controller and the Windows 7 clients? Check the Event Viewer and provide us with more details. In addition, I suggest you to modify the security policies in Default Domain Controllers Policy to check if it works. Please back up the Default Domain Controllers Policy Group Policy object (GPO) before you modify it. Follow these steps to disable SMB packet signing enforcement based domain controller: 1. To open GPMC, click Start, click Run, type gpmc.msc and then click OK. 2. In the console tree, right-click Default Domain Controllers Policy in Domains\Current Domain Name\Group Policy objects\Default Domain Controllers Policy, and then click Edit. 3. In the Group Policy Management Editor window, in the console tree, go to Computer Configuration/Policies/Windows Settings/Security Settings/Local Policies/Security Options. 4. In the details pane, double-click Microsoft network server:Digitally sign communications (always). 5, Verify that the Define this policy setting check box is selected, click Disabled to prevent SMB packet signing from being required, and then click OK. To apply the Group Policy change immediately, either restart the domain controller or open a command prompt, type the command: gpupdate /force Regards, MiyaThis posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. | Please remember to click "Mark as Answer" on the post that helps you, and to click "Unmark as Answer" if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
