Windows 7 and connecting to Windows 2003 network
I just received a new Windows 7 Professional 64-bit PC and it is attached to a Windows Server 2003 domain. I have mapped a drive letter g: to \\<windows server 2003 server>\<share>. I am able to access the files on this drive ok, but once I reboot the PC, I get a message after logging back into the network that my drive could not be reconnected. When I go into Windows Explorer, I see the g: drive and I get prompted for a username and password when I click on the drive. I don't have this problem on any of my Windows XP and Windows Vista PCs (of which they are 32-bit). Any ideas why it is doing this? Thanks, Scott

This is not how it's supposed to work... I have the same setup with 2003 domain and win7 x64 client and it works flawlessly.A couple of questions:- Are you logged on to the client with a domain user?- Have you checked the box for "remember this password" when you connect?

Hi, Please answer Eirik's questions. You should click the option "Remember this password" option when the user name and password window pops up. Meanwhile, you can disconnect the network drive and re-map the network drive in Safe Mode with networking. You can refer to the following article to map a drive. Create a shortcut to (map) a network drive Thanks, Novak

Hi, In answering Eirik's questions, yes I'm logged into the client with a domain user and I've check the box "remember this password" when connecting. Is there anything special I should have done to join the Windows 7 64-bit PC to the domain? I went to the "Computer Name" on "System Properties" and clicked the "Change" button. I then put in the domain and entered the domain administrator username and password. Should I try removing the PC from the domain and rejoining the domain? Thanks, Scott

Hi,I have an update to this situation. When I log in with another domain administrator, I am able to map network drives without any issues. My user login is still having problems and I'm a domain administrator also.I thought it could be my local profile (I'm not using a roaming profile) was the issue, so I deleted it and recreated it. This didn't help and I'm still getting the same error.Any ideas? Thanks,Scott

Hi, I suspect that the issue may occur by corrupted profile or incorrect user permission. At this stage, I suggest you create a new domain administrator account and login on the machine for a test. Meanwhile, please assure the permission of the problematic account is the same as the fine account. However, if the issue persists, please perform the following steps to remove the user profile completely. Windows 7 Profile keeps being deleted Thanks, Novak
