Windows 7 and Wired Network 802.1x
Hi friends
Windows does not show credential pop-up for 802.1x ?
We enabled 802.1x on wired network connection in a domain using MS Active Directory+Cisco Secure ACS+Cisco Switches
802.1x on joined computers is configured:
1)Auth method: PEAP
2)Auth mode: user authentication
3)Marked: Automatically use my windows logon name and password
All joined computers are working very well but there are many workgroup computers as guest and we need to authenticate them as well.
so we configure guests just like joined computers but UNMARK the "Automatically use my windows logon name and password" so windows shows a pop-up, we click on this pop-up and it opens a credential window. then we enter a username and password and
it authenticates and everything ok.
but sometime on guest computers (more on windows 7) windows never show the pop-up! enable disable LAN connection or rebooting computer does not help.
on windows 7 we must go to Additional Settings and set authentication mode to User, then click on Save Credential and enter the username/password manually :( the bigger problem is when password expires, we face the authentication problem on many guest
computers. authentication is faild and windows does not show credential pop-up, so we must enter it again manually.
we can train our users to click on pop-up and enter username/password whenever the pop-up is shown but we can not train them to identify the problem and if it's about authentication then go to network connection, LAN prperties, authentication (802.1x), additional
setting and ... !!
how can I make the windows 7 to show the pop-up? is there any settings, registery key or anything else to force windows 7 to show the credential pop-up?
please help :(
