Windows 7 and Windows XP workgroup via wireless lan
I am network admin on a small research lab. I have "successfully" connected 3 laptops, one Quad core running Windows 7 64 bit and two older Pentium M machines running Windows XP Pro. Lets call them ROG1 and ROG2. I have authorized "share" of two folders on ROG1 and they show up when, from the Win7 machine application, I File > Open > Network > ROG1 > [I see both folders with Share under title]. When I click on one of the folders up comes a warning: Windows cannot access \\ROG1\desiredfile You do not have permission to access.... contact your local administrator. That would be me. What need I do to open these "shared" files?

Hi, This issue can occur by incorrect permission or network settings. Please try the following steps to troubleshoot the issue. 1. Turn on ROG2 machine and check whether the two shared files can be accessed. If so, please let me know. Otherwise, please proceed to the next steps. 2. Please temporarily turn off firewall on Windows XP machine and refer to the following article to share the folder. How to configure file sharing in Windows XP 3. Share a folder on Windows 7 machine and verify whether the shared folder can be accessed on two Windows XP machine. Thanks, Novak

Forgive the slow comeback. I just received the alert that there had been response via hotmail??? Since I wrote I have gotten wireless connectivity betweeen all machines in Workgroup. I bought an HP wireless printer and it to shows up on the Network and works! I did notice that when the network is shut down and restarted it takes a bit of time [5 minutes +/-] for all the devices to be recognized so a bit of patience is required before pressing the "panic" button :) Now that I see the various "sharing" folders responses I will test those and report back. Thanks to all for taking the time to respond. Bob Kiger - Videography Lab
