Windows 7 and Windows Home Server Backup
Any idea why I can't get WHS to do automatic backups for my Windows 7-64 bit desktop? It does manual backups fine. But, I've set the server to backup automatically at night. It is supposed to wake the Windows 7 Desktop. Does WHS Backup used the client's Task scheduler? If so, there is no task listed in my Windows 7 client.Does my network adapter need to be set so that it doesn't sleep? Is there something I need to do in my BIOS settings to make this work?Do I need to set my wake timers or something in APM?I'm using a desktop that is always on AC power.Any suggestions appreciated.

If your client goes into hibernate or sleep there are new power settings you need to configure so it will wake up for the backup. See this...http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,22897471Otherwise have you installed Power Pack 3 for your WHS? Its available via Windows Update. That is advertised to fix problems with Windows 7. Note you will need to install new client connector software after you install PP3 on the WHS.You canalsopost to the WHS forums for help...http://social.microsoft.com/forums/en-US/whssoftware/threads/MS-MVP Windows Desktop Experience, "When all else fails, read the instructions"

What do you mean? Run backup from the WHS to the Windows 7 64bit system, or backup Windows 7 64bit system to a location of the WHS computer? On the destination computer, you'd better make some changes. In BIOS, make sure that resuming the computer from network is enabled. You may refer the instruction of your motherboard manufacturer. In Windows system, please open Device Manager, make changes on the network adapter like this. Also you need to disable Hibernate and hybird Sleep in Power Options.Arthur Xie - MSFT
