Windows 7 and VPN
I have no issues with VPN connectivity...at all. the issue is that its either i have connectivity in the VPN to my office OR i have local connectivity to the Internet through my regular connection BUT NOT BOTH. in order for me to connect to the internet through my local browser on my Windows 7 PC i must disconnect the VPN. isn't there a way for Windows 7 to let me on to BOTH at the same time? this wasn't an issue in XP thanksTony Parker, MSCE . This is called split-tunneling. Are you sure you had this config with XP? Are you connecting to a Windows Based VPN solution (RRAS)? I wouldnt think so as there is no option in Windows that I know to do this. It could be that you are using another product for VPN and you simply need to check with your VPN Administrator to make sure this is still configured in that manner. Hi, I hope the automatic detection is not possible. But if you use Cisco VPN, it is possible. Ok. Now go to internet options->connections->LAN settings Check Automatically detect settings and Check Use a proxy for your LAN and give the address and port number, if you have proxy for local access. Click on OK to save the configuration. I think, now you will get the same functionality like XP. -AJ

Hi, This issue may occur if you configure the VPN connection to use the default gateway on the remote network. This setting overrides the default gateway settings that you specify in your Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) settings. I would like to suggest you perform the following steps to disable "Use default gateway on remote network". 1. Click the Network icon on the system tray. 2. Right click VPN Connection and click Properties. 3. Switch to Networking tab. 4. Highlight Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click Properties. 5. Click Advanced tab and uncheck Use default gateway on remote network. 6. Click OK to check the issue. Does it work?
