Windows 7 and Speedsetter OpenRipit Printer
We just got a new computer for our office that has Windows 7 everything else here is on Windows XP - all of our printers on the network have been loaded fine onto the new system witn Window 7 except for our Speedsetter OpenRipNT V3 wich has now been bought out by Xante. I have been on the phone with technical support from the company and they have e-mailed me printer drivers .inf files that are supposed to work with Windows 7. At this point I still can't get anything loaded for this printer which is our major direct-to-press printer. It keeps telling me it can't find a compatible printer driver. Any suggestions?

Ouch. That printer doesn't sound like a cheap "buy a new one and replace it" type of model.Do the drivers they provided to you install at all?Are you sharing the printer from a server system?Hardware manufacturers don't usually put too much effort into supporting older hardware with new software, for obvious reasons. Next time I buy anything of any significant value that ties into Windows I'm going to demand some kind of policy statement from the vendor outlining what they intend to do to support the next release(s) of Windows.Outside of what you've already done (and continuing to work with their support folks), I'd suggest trying any Vista drivers they may offer for that printer. In many ways Windows 7 is like a ".1" release of Vista.-Noel

Hi,Is there any error message? You can try install the driver for XP in compatible mode. On the drop down menu arrow and select which version of Windows the program was made for, Windows XP (SP3) is suggested.

it doesn't even let me get far enough to install the printer - when I click on the printer I want to install it spools looking for any windows updates then comes up saying No Driver FoundWindows can't find a driver for OpenRipit NT on the network. To locate one manually click ok etc. etc.so I search for it manually and it still tells me it can't find a compatible driver

Ross Printing, their using .inf files implies they have no "installer program" for Windows 7... Do you have an installer program for an older version of Windows? If so, and if Magon's suggestion to try to tweak the installer's compatibility settings so that it thinks the system is older when installing doesn't work, this is a clear case of your having to look to the manufacturer for updated drivers. Inasmuch as RIPit was bought out, I can see some extra difficulty there.Good luck.-Noel

If still no go, Windows 7 has a build-in feature called windows xp mode, it will workaround the incompatible driver issue. When you need to printer, launch Windows xp mode.
