What authentication/encryption are you using? Some N adapters require unsecured access or AES only to achieve speeds >54 Mbps.

Sounds like it might be a driver issue or a defective product. I assume you've checked for/downloaded the latest driver from Linksys and are running the latest firmware on the WRT600N? If not, try upgrading those first. Otherwise I'd suggest exchanging the wireless adapter for another if possible, unless someone else comes forward having a similar issue. As far as I know, those are the only two things I can think of that might be the reason for the problem you are experiencing.

WEP (which is totally unsafe) is optional in the final 802.11n spec. Somedrivers have dropped support for WEP because of this. WPA2-AES is therecommended encryption method. Your card/driver is performing correctly per theN spec by connecting at only G speeds.Barb Bowman www.digitalmediaphile.com

Just a guess, The LINKSYS WUSB600N doesn't support simultaneous dual band so maybe you have your modem setup to run at 5Ghz. Meaning your old pc may have a N wireless "dual band" network adapter installed (possible the one that came with the modem) and your Dell laptop only has a N wireless "Non-dual band" network adapter installed whereby its only able to connect at the standard 2.4Ghz. I'm not sure about this, but i reckon its possible? yes/no?
