Windows 7 and Domain password policy
All my Windows 7 clients logon to the domain. My domain policy is set to prompt user to change password. However end users are not getting notified. My DCs are Win2k8SP2 and Win2k8R2.

Where did you configure this policy? Santhosh Sivarajan | MCTS, MCSE (W2K3/W2K/NT4), MCSA (W2K3/W2K/MSG), CCNA, Network+ Houston, TX http://blogs.sivarajan.com/ http://publications.sivarajan.com/ This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.

My XP clients are prompted, not my Win7. This is configured in my default domain policy. Computer/Security Options/Interactive logon: Prompt user to change password before expiration.

Hi, Are the Windows 7 machine and Windows XP machine in the same OU or domain? Please ensure that they are in the same site, domain or OU and the relevant policy is not conflicted with each other. Also, please refer to the following article to troubleshoot the password policy issue. Changes are not applied when you change the password policy http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;269236 Hope this helps. Novak

Yes. All machines are in the same OU. I have not made any changes to the password policy in 18 months.

The Windows 7 clients are being notified, but the little "Key" icon is being hidden. I'm having a similar problem at my office and we're trying to figure out the best response. The workaround for now has been to force Windows 7 clients to display all notifications and icons in their Taskbar (by the clock). I would like to make a "whitelist" of sorts for icons I need to appear in the Taskbar on all my Win7 clients, but I don't see how to do that (yet).
