this has the same problems as vista after sleep mode i don't get sound, the sound drivers are fully installed and everything. The speaker icon is also working to, it doesn't even have the x mark on it meaning there is sound but there is no sound output, after i double click on the speaker icon and the sound levels go up and down depending on the song, that works too but there is no output. the computer thinks its outputting sound but its not, i need help :( someone help i have a gateway fx 6831 laptop and it was fine with the vist service pack 1 since it came with the laptop, btu with all the builds i have tried with 7 none of them is fixing this problem.

as there are known issues with the sleep mode in this RC, you should restart the system. if the sound problem is gone then, it's a sleep mode problem and you should avoid sleep (for your pc, not for you).Mobile AMD64 3000+, VIA Apollo K8T800 chipset, 1 G RAM, ATIRadeonMobility 9700, 20x DVDRW, C:XPSP3 (55G),D:WIN7 (25G),F:DATA (250G)

I have this exact same issue on my computer (Gateway P-6860 FX). This never happened on the Beta of Windows 7. I need it fixed because I rely heavily on Sleep mode.

This is still an issue, even in RTM. I have a Gateway P-172X FX.

This is still an issue, even in RTM. I have a Gateway P-172X FX. Hi Gonkers There are several well documented bugs in the Windows 7 RC build. The bug appears when a hardware/software component fails to re-initializewhen the system resumes from Sleep or Hibernation or will not enter the suspend state. This is a small list of other issues that have been seen. These bugshave only beenseen on specific systems that havecombinations of certain hardware/software installed. The only way we have to deal with these issues in the RC buildis to try and avoid using the Sleep/Hibernate functions as much as possible. If you experience this bug and still need to use the Sleep or Hibernate functions be aware that you could possibly lose any unsaved information in applications. We are currently evaluating the RTM build to see if these particular problems been resolved. See the following link for a list of other threads hereon this topic and some fixes that have been posted. Sleep/Hibernate Issues - Microsoft TechNet Forums SearchUpdated: Some users have reported that this bug still exists in the RTM build. Work on this continues and hopefully will be resolved soon. Be sure to check Windows Update often and look for any compatibility updates. This particular bug has been tough to squash because it was also associated with several different Bios versions as well as several different hardware driver conflicts. Hope this helps.Thank You for testing Windows 7 Ronnie Vernon MVP

i have the Gateway P-6860FX and when i installed Windows 7 i had the same problem. I simply went to Gateway's website and found the page with drivers for this computer http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/search.asp?st=pn&param=1015340R and downloaded the audio driver and installed it. It solved the problem for me. The driver worked even though it was for vista 64-bit and not 7 64-bit.

i have this kind of problem, but mine is a litle weirder, the sound will not work no matter how meny reboots software installs of the corect driver, but if you put the computer to sleep the sound works, but the tempriture rockets and forces a shutdown with in 10 mins, where as previously when the sound wasn't working it cud be runin idle for days, but as soon as the sleep and the sound works the computer encounters the mentiond problem with out the cpu fanworking, . runing fujitsu seimens amilo pro 2045 2gb ramthanks phil murphy

Sleep/Standby and Hibernation have been iffy since they were introduced. It seems that they haven't been fixed for the latest versions of Windows, either. While they work for many users, it's common for something to be not working after resuming. Mouse, network, video, sound, it can be just about anything that falls over.

I have the same computer as you so what I did, and surprisingly worked as Fast was >Control Panel\Hardware and Sound>Sound click on Speakers and hit Properties, then When you see Speaker Properties Click on "properties" under Controller Information Under General Tab hit "change Settings" then hit Drive tab and hit "uninstall" then it will uninstall driver and Restart for you. if not restart yourself. then when i booted up computer the Driver AUTOmatically reinstalled itself FOR ME, the Audio was working Properly and showing sound coming in even though I myself didn't hear anything hope this helps! now it works for me..

I started having this problem a few days ago for the first time, have had my computer over 2 months now. It is annoying because sometimes i may have a video on the web loaded and rebooting means having to wait for the video to load all over. Im sure there are other reasons similar to this that people find annoying. Anyways, I think i have found a quick 5-step solution that does not require a reboot or driver reinstall: 1. go to control panel. 2. click hardware and sound. 3. click sound. 4. on the window that pops up, right click the speakers you are using, and click disable. 5. re-enable them. should work after that, it did for me anyways. hope this helps!

Thanks guys, but no dice. Problem started after accidentally putting laptop in hibernation mode while watching a DVD. Speakers are enabled and all volumes are turned up. I can hear sound with headphones. I restarted and tried system restore, and also tried SmileChristine's fix. I'm out of ideas.

Try this, on the task bar Right click on your Volume icon and Open Volume Mixer. Check if your Device for audio is your default sound device, Speakers etc. Also on the volume Icon, right click and check Playback devices test and configure that, resetting or uninstalling that driver

Unplugging then replugging in the device (headphones or speakers) typically works to re-enable sound after sleep mode in Windows 7.
