Windows 7 activation problems
Hi, I have upgraded the amount of ram recently and decied to upgrade to 64 windows to actuall make use of this, I didnt have a copy of x64 win 7 pro so decied to grab a copy off "the internet" I have used my CD from the side of the case and activated and been using it for a short while. since I have tried to install SP1 it has failed to and keeps doing so, also a .net update fails two ( i can find the error code right now). I suspect this is because windows thinks that is its not valid, in My Computer propertys it shows no Product ID at all, it did before show this and say activated. When i try to activated i get this error code. 0x8004f807, The time is correct so that is not the issue and i can find no other solution. With out downloading another windows 7 pro x64 image and reinstalling, any ideas? Is it possible that who ever put togearther the version add some kind of wga fix that is causing this even though its valid? Thanks, Matthew

From the COA lable "windows 7 Pro OA" the recovery disk is 32bit, they dont have a 64 bit version, hence the need to download it.

I've read mixed reports on whether an OEM key can be used with a retail copy. (I have no OEM key, so I've never tried it.) Suggestion one: download the Win7 X64 Pro .iso from a legitimate source. (Looks like the copy you downloaded was hacked.) Links to that aren't permitted here. (Hints: search using Mydigitallife.) Suggestion 2: make a generic installer. (search on ei.cfg.) If you really want to be 100% legitimate, contact the maker of your PC. Perhaps they'll provide X64 install media for free or for a nominal charge. (I'd bet that they will not, however.)

Thanks, Matthew To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool (download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 ) Once saved, run the tool. Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report. To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response. - IN YOUR OWN THREAD, please -- Noel Paton | Nil Carborundum Illegitemi | CrashFixPC | The Three-toed Sloth

Believe me - there's no problem at all with using an OEM Key (from the COA) with a Retail disk - the only problem is if the user has recovered a Key form the original installation, and that Key is the OEM_SLP one, which relies on the SLIC Table (in BIOS) and certificates in the OS. -- Noel Paton | Nil Carborundum Illegitemi | CrashFixPC | The Three-toed Sloth
