Windows 7 XP Mode - Installing 3rd party software
I have recently upgraded to 64 bit MS Windows 7 Professional, unfortunaley I still need to run some software from several years back - GE iFIX 3.5. However I'm aware Microsoft have provided XP Mode for such situations. Therefore I've installed XP Mode (which I believe is XP Pro SP3) & installed all the hot fixes from Windows Update. However when I attempt to install GE iFIX 3.5 the install crashes XP Mode while attempting to 'Install License Files' and XP Mode can not be rebooted so I need to rebuild XP Mode from scratch. GE iFIX 3.5 has run successfully on my old 32 bit MS Windows XP Professional SP3 machine for years. Initially to install the software I needed to modify the boot.ini file to '/noexecute=alwaysoff', but I've made the same change on the XP Mode boot.ini. The Win 7 Administrator Event Viewer reports...Source: Virtual PC, Event ID: 108, Level: Error, Product Version: 6.1.7600.16393, Local ID: 5129 'Windows XP Mode' experienced a fatal processor error and has been turned off. Has anyone any thoughts on what I am doing wrong? Note: I know iFIX 3.5 does not support 64 bit, but my understanding is that XP Mode is 32 bit.

That's pretty much a generic answer. I'm having the same exact problem with the same scenario using IFix 3.5.. I have tried fresh install of xp mode and it did not help. it crashed as soon as registering license.

This issue seems not related with Windows XP Mode. Since IFix 3.5 is not the product of Microsoft, and we are not familiar with this software, I suggest to ask IFix Forum for further help: http://www.ge-ip.com/support_services Please Note: Since the website is not hosted by Microsoft, the link may change without notice. While I'm happy to accept it could be a GE iFIX issue (& have made a support request to GE), I am a little confused as to why. iFIX 3.5 installs fine on MS Windows XP SP3 and the Virtual PC (XP Pro SP3) I had on my old laptop. Therefore iFIX 3.5 does not appear to have a problem with XP nor virtualisation - it just appears to have a problem with XP Mode. Obviously I'm a confused, I had thought XP Mode was Virtual PC with a single XP Pro SP3 license included. If this is not the case, should I install Virtual PC on my MS Windows 7 Pro (64 bit) machine as well? Also, if XP Mode & Virtual PC are different is there a white paper highlighting the differences between XP Mode & Virtual PC?
