Windows 7 Workstation IP Assignment Method-IT ED Lab
I manage a lab of computers in an educational environment dedicated to IT training. http://www.cttech.org/platt/technologies/mst/mst.htm We are installing all new workstations. We also run SCCM. I have been considering the best method of Assigning ip addresses for these new workstations. We currently have a 10.0.0.0/25 block for our lab. Currently we have the first 20 ips reserved for servers & network printers. I see 3 options for assigning ips to the lab. 1. Give each workstation a static ip 2. Assign each workstation a dhcp reservation & set the workstation to get a ip from dhcp 3. Let each workstation get a ip from our dhcp block. Which option do you think is the best for our situation?

If you have very few machines in Lab Environment say 5-10 machines, you may assign static IPs or else, I would suggest you to go with DHCP IPs. If you have static lab environment you may go for DHCP reservation, static lab environment is something wherein you have dedicated lab machines which are not being re-imaged frequently. If lab machines are seldom re-imaged then, go with normal DHCP IP assignment. here, you will have option to change DHCP lease period depending on your requirement.
