Windows 7 Wired/Wireless network priority
Hello We have a windows 7 prof 64bit and trying to have wired lan take preference over wireless lan. Wired LAN and wireless LAN are 172.168.x.x and 192.168.x.x network with respective gateways. Under network advanced changed priority to wired LAN and also tried manually changing the metric to lower value for LAN. Inspite of all this settings the wireless takes precedence. Also, while working the right way what is the best way to confirm if wired lan or wireless has top priority ? Also, is it fair to say if we see the wireless connection icon (bars) on task bar the primary connection is via wireless and not wired lan ? Thanks

Why not simply disable the network adapter you don't want to use? Is that too much trouble? Bill

Good afternoon, I have a similar problem. We are a society with proxy server for internet access. Our accounting use simultinaly Wireless and Wired connections; she has a privilege to avoid proxy for her internet access when she uses exclusively Wired connection. So in "Advanced Settings" of "Network Connections" pages we put Wired connection in first position. Problem is that when Wireless and Wired connection are actives, she has to put proxy server to go to the web instead of our setup. Wireless seems to be prior to Wired. Is there an other way to change priority of type of Network connection in Windows 7 ? Regards, I hope You understant my problem.

sometimes we need to connect to several networks. and connecting to a network is not necessarily for connecting to internet. may be we have to connect to a local network for office use but we need internet too which our local network didn't give us internet connection access , so this is the answer . Open the Network and Sharing Center.Click Change adapter settings.Press Alt to make the menus visible, select Advanced Settings... from the Advanced menu.Reorder the items in Connections so that you Local Area Connection is on top.

We have the problem where Verizon 4G is faster than our wireless G and sends our users to internet instead of intranet. We'll give this a try and see if it works. I beliveve this is the solution as provided in the 70-680 exam book so it should work.Richland, WA IT

I have the same issue. A fixed IP wired connection and a DHCP wireless connection. I need to prefer/use the wired connection when it is up. Adapter Bindings and Metrics have no effect. I've spent hours on this one, anyone find any results.
