Windows 7 WiFi Problems
Recently my Mum purchased an Acer Windows 7 Laptop which has been running find up until last week. She was trying to use the internet when it disconnected from WiFi and says there is an error with the router ect. The router is set up correctly both itself and on the Laptop, my desktop is using Ethernet and is fine and my mobile phone can use the routers WiFi no problem. The laptop has continued to do this everytime we try to use the internet on it sometimes it will keep the connection for a few minutes before disconnecting again and saying there are multiple errors which do not exist. Thank you in advance for any help, Daniel

I have had Wifi problems at home with an old Dell Latitude laptop that my son uses. We soon figured out that his WiFi disconnections matched precisely to someone in the kitchen using the microwave. So perhaps first eliminate any external source as contributing to the disconnects? You don't mention any errors. What about in the Event Log of the Windows 7 laptop? Also, is there an event log on the router? Are you trying to run encryption on the WiFi link? (maybe try just hiding the SSID of the router and running the laptop with unencrypted connection for a while). How far physically is the laptop from the router? Does it behave the same way when its physically fairly close (say, within 5 meters) compared to more distant (say, more than 10 metres).

Have you tried changing the router to a different wireless channel? A good free utility to see which channels are in use locally is inSSIDer

Along with the other suggestions, if the Acer is a recent purchase, is it still under warranty? Have you tried contacting Acer support? SC Tom -There's no such thing as TMI when asking for tech support.

Thanks a lot, I found my routers wireless settings and changed the channel and ever since it's worked great! Also I've found the inSSIDer utility very helpful too so a big thank you!
