Windows 7 Wi-Fi printer
I'm using Windows 7 Pro and am connected to the internet at my office through the normal network connection. I am also connected to the internet at home via wireless (and satellite) but can not get connected to my wi-fi printer at the office. I can establish a connection to "linksys" but the icon on the bottom right has a yellow querey mark on it. Have run all the diagnostics and the computer tells me that my printer is not wireless connectable. As my last window xp laptop did all this easliy, can anyone help.

You will have to check that the wireless settings in Win 7 and the wireless settings on the printer are matched. You may need to find the manual for the printer to find out what the settings are. Not knowing exactly what your printers settings are makes it quite impossible to tell you exactly what needs to be done. If you're talkling about the ethernet icon haviing the jellow query mark, that probably indicates you don't have the correct settings for your ethernet connection as I don't think there are any Linksys printers. You will have to talk to someone in your office that knows what your settings need to be. It is virtually impossible to provide you that information from here. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. I am going to ASSUME a few things (yea I know BAD move) I assume "Linksys" is the wifi network you are connecting at work. Next I assume that the printer is setup on the same wifi network linksys as you state it worked before. So what you need to know is the IP of the printer, most printer will print out the settings for you by you using the menu interfaace of the printer. Once you have the IP of the printer you would "install it" via the control panel. If are wanting to print to the printer and do not have an Access point (Linksys SSID) then you need to run the SNMP util for the printer which will hunt for the printer. Now if this is not what you have setup provide more info and we can go from there.

Hi Nimbus, can you tell me the model of your Wi-Fi printer? Or you can check the compatible on Windows 7 Compatibility Center. You can try to reinstall the driver of Wi-Fi printer. Connect the printer via wired network and see if the printer can be detected and function in Windows 7. Please try to Add the printer using the following steps: 1) Click Start==>click Control Panel==>click Devices and Printers. 2) Click Add a Printer. 3) Select Add a local printer. 4) Click Create a new port, select Local Port. 5) Type the following command in the box “Enter a port name”. \\[IP Address of the Windows 32bit computer that printer connected]\[The shared name of the printer] 6) Click Next and follow the wizard to finish the installation. As you said that is can be run in Windows XP, please try to user Windows XP Mode to see if the same issue appears. Install and use Windows XP Mode in Windows 7 Hope it helps.
