Windows 7 Weather Gadget Problems
A few days ago I noticed my Weather gadget (the one that came with Win7) stopped showing the temperature. It would only show a dash ( - ). It would correct itself in an hour or so. Well, it began happening more and more until eventually it never corrected itself. I also suspect that it was pulling my computer out of the screensaver to to try to update. I tried cleaning out the cache folder to no avail. I then read that uninstalling it then reinstalling it could help. I uninstalled the gadget from the gadget menu, and now I can't find where to download it again. Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance.

You can download this gadget again by right clicking on desktop, go to gadgets, then click on "get more gadgets online" The weather gadget can be found online.

I tried that, but I can't find the Windows 7 default one. I find many gadgets, but all are authored by individuals, not Microsoft.

Ok, so I found how to restore my default gadgets - (control panel > appearance > restore default gadgets), but I think I found the underlying problem. I couldn't connect to msn.com. I tried in multiple browsers (IE and FireFox) and it wouldn't go. I added the site in Internet Options of IE, and it still wouldn't load. Eventually, it magically loaded - but my weather gadget (the default Win7 one) won't update or automatically find my location. The option is grayed out. Also my RSS reader (also the default Win7 one) hasn't updated since Friday. I ran a McAfee virus scan and an Malwarebytes Anti-Malware scan and both came back clean.

Hi choral_music, Please temporary disable or uninstall McAfee to see if the issue exists. Also, access Clean Boot to check the issue. If the issue disappears in the Clean Boot environment, you can continue to narrow down which entry is causing the issue. If the issue persists, try the suggestions in this knowledge base (KB) article: Message that you may receive when you try to view the Weather gadget on the Windows Sidebar in Windows Vista: “Service not available in your language or region” It applies to Windows 7 as well. If the issue still exists, you can reinstall Gadgets by the steps below to see if the issue can be resolved: 1. Go to Start, click Control Panel. 2. Click Programs and Features. 3. Click "Turn Windows features on or off" on the left pane. 4. Uncheck "Windows Gadgets Platform". 5. Click "Yes" to continue, and click OK to quit. Then Restart. 6. Open "Turn Windows features on or off" again. Turn on the features "Windows Gadgets Platform". 7. Restart. Hope this helps.
