Windows 7 Versions
According to engadet.com windows 7 will have many different versions... again http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/25/multiple-windows-7-versions-coming-say-it-aint-so/ Why can't they just keep it simple and go with 2 or 3 different versions. There are many good comments on the engadget article about how windows should go about creating different versions, such as having one disc and allowing the user to decide what to install with windows 7.

I'd go for just one version. One version which suits anybody, from small children and seniors to multi-tasking software developers and power users who are too lazy to install a decent Linux distribution. The Windows 7.

Two versions: Home and Business Get rid of a basic edition. Basic edition is just another way of saying that your computer is too old to handle normal operations. just my opinion...

It's the same SKU menu that was in build 7000. According to the official statements, Microsoft not yet decided which versions will be available.Microsoft MVP - Group Policy

Hi Just a comment. Any information you see about anything to do with the final version of Windows 7 is pure speculation, regardless of where you read it. If you would like to post feedback and let Microsoft know what you want to see in the final version, please post your feedback to the following thread. Have Comments about Windows 7 Beta? I agree that this is all just speculation. How about this for windows versions.don't put out a bunch of different versions of windows 7; instead have one installation and allow the user to decide what features to install you could have some predefined versions to choose from on the installation ex. home premium, basic, business, ultimate (for the non computer users), or let the user decide (mix and match--that way the user gets what they need not necessarily what comes prepackaged)

I agree with less versions. Forgethavingabasic version Microsoft. It's useless except to a select few. A Premium and Ultimate version would be fine covering ALL USERS, (Home and Bussiness) And then of course you have 32 bit and 64 bit in the same package to cover new and older pc's. ALL SAID!

Ya but then they might want $400 for it....I want the less expensive version, like Home Premium.

In my post I forgot to mention thisIn regards to the one installation: How about a base price similar to home premium's price and then allow the user to add or subtract features. After the installation has finished and everything Microsoft can then just charge you for the parts you added or give money back if they just want to go with a basic version. Then everyone wins and people get what they want.
