Windows 7 VPN - PPTP
okay looking at the forums, this has been an issue in the past when upgrading XP clients to Windows 7 my problem is that I have the PPTP working with Windows 7 (using techniques listed in previous articles, like unchecking IPv6) but I have one client workstation that will not connect -- I have checked and re-checked the settings are the same as a working Windows 7 client the only difference is the non working client is a 64bit OS so my question is, is there a difference between the two Windows 7 versions (32 & 64) in th way the handle PPTP VPN,s

Hi, Whats the symptom of the not working client? Is there any error received? Also, you may temporarily disable the third party security programs and firewall to test this issue. If the issue persists, in order to narrow down the issue and find the root cause, please collect the RAS logs for our further research. RAS Logs ------------------ Note: The logs need to be collected before you start the connection setup. Execute the following from elevated command prompt on both computer(the one works and the one fails). 1. Run netsh ras set tr * en (without quotes). This enables logging. 2. Recreate the issue. 3. Run netsh trace stop (without quotes). 3. Run netsh ras set tr * di (without quotes). This disables logging. Please share the files %systemdrive%\users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Temp\nettraces\nettrace.etl, nettrace.cab and %systemdrive%\windows\tracing\* with us. You can upload the data to SkyDrive and provide us the link for analyzing. You may check how to use SkyDrive for more information. Hello CingCiek, The 619 error can occur by incompatible third party security programs, incorrect network settings or conflicted driver. I suggest you try the following steps to troubleshoot the issue. 1. Temporarily uninstall firewall or antivirus program on the machine. 2. Upgrade the NIC driver to the latest one. If the issue persists, please bypass the router (if there is) and connect to DSL modem directly for a test. If the issue persists, please also perform the suggestions from the link below: http://www.howtonetworking.com/vpnissues/error619.htm Please Note: Since the website is not hosted by Microsoft, the link may change without notice. Okay update -- the VPN works on the 64bit machine when tested form a different internet connection, so the initial test connection was obvioulsy not letting the correct traffic/protocols out so thanks everyone the main thing to ensure(in my case) was that my Type of VPN is set to PPTP not automatic Data encryption is set to Optional and IPV6 is unticked on the networking tab, and use the following DNS is set to the VPN's enpoint DNS (i.e the one at the office)
