Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor has stopped working
So downloaded and tried to Upgrade to Windows 7 today and of course it got to about the last step and told me there was an error, something couldn't be upgraded and it went back to vista. It told me to install the Upgrade Advisor to help alleviate the issue but wouldn't you know it, that's messed up to. Downloaded the newest version (10/19) and installed it and go to run it and get a prompt telling me it stopped working. Error details: Description: Stopped working Problem signature: Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: WindowsUpgradeAdvisor.exe Application Version: 2.0.2089.0 Application Timestamp: 4ad52433 Fault Module Name: KERNEL32.dll Fault Module Version: 6.0.6002.18005 Fault Module Timestamp: 49e037dd Exception Code: e0434f4d Exception Offset: 0003fbae OS Version: 6.0.6002.2.2.0.768.3 Locale ID: 1033 So I need a fix to the program that is meant to help me fix something else.

Hi tavoss, It is weird that the latest version of Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor failed to install on your Windows Vista. I assume that the issue may occur due to startup items and third party services running on your computer. So, lets enter in Clean boot mode and disable all startup items and third party services when booting. This method will help us determine if this issue is caused by a loading program or service. Please perform the following steps: 1. Click the Start, type "msconfig in the Start Search box, and then press Enter. 2. Click the "Services" tab, check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box and click "Disable All" (if it is not gray). 3. Click the "Startup" tab, click "Disable All" and click "OK". Then, restart the computer to retry running the upgrade advisor. If it does not help, lets start the computer in Safe Mode to check the issue. (press F8 when restarting your computer.) If the issue persists, I wondered what the error you received when upgrading to Win 7. It is always recommended contacting your computer manufacture to help update all the available device driver before upgrading your system. In addition, how you tried to upgrade your Win Vista to Win 7? Upgrading via Windows 7 Upgrade or other ways? For more information, please refer to the following link. Hi Tavoss, According to your problem description, I realize that Windows 7 Upgrade installation failed and Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor also failed. What is the detailed error message when trying to upgrade to Windows 7? It seems that some system files are corrupted. I suggest you run System File Checker to check the system files first. If any system files cannot be fixed, please upload the sfcdetails.txt to SkyDrive and provide us the link for analyzing? If we cannot fix the corrupted system files found in sfcdetails.txt, you may need to perform an In-Place upgrade to repair your Windows Vista operating system. Arthur Li - MSFT
