Windows 7 Updating the reboot loop
I am working on a laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium. I rcvd this from a client who states that it takes her 3 or 4 times to start. I rcvd this system to find that it does what she states. I noticed that it attempts to install updates then fails and reverts and reboots. After looking into this I found a temporary solution until the system reboots. I enter into console mode type in: sfc /scannow which allows me to boot into windows normally. When the computer updates it attempts to download a total of 17 Security Updates to Microsoft .NET Framework 3.51 and Security Updates for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems. When I uncheck the boxes the reboot problem does not occur. When the OS updates again the problem occurs. Any idea whats going on and how to resolve it? My other thought is to reimage the system but I belive the problem will return when performing updates Please Advise.

Check the windowsupdate.log (c:\windows) Find which update is failing and hide it that way at least won't try to install it again. If it is .net framework then try removing .net and reinstalling it. This link has a tool for removing the framework http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2005/04/08/406671.aspx

I am not exactly sure how to hide it. I did find a .net framework fix and attempted it so I will let you know if that worked. Thanks for the above blog.

when you get to the screen to install updates, don't use express use the custom instead. Then right click on the update that you want to hide and then it should not bother you again. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/ff382716.aspx
