Windows 7 Update Problems
Ok I have seen a lot of people posting problems with the update associated with SP1 and after reading through everything I don't see an exact duplicate of my problem, so I thought I would ask here. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit on a Dell XPS1701 I have tried to download and install this update several times and I have received the following error codes: 80242016 / 800706BE / 80200010 / 80004004 / 8024000B I have googled these codes; however, the answers I have seen in other forums are "greek" to me. I have clicked on the link to get help with these error codes in update history and attempt to run the troubleshooter then I get this message: "An unexpected error has occurred. The troubleshooting wizard cannot continue." This is kind of frustrating to the novice as it seems to have changed some of the settings in my computer and I cannot revert to a restore point earlier than yesterday and that doesn't help. Short of re-installing my OS and MS Office Suite again how do I recover and get my update. By the way, Microsoft says this update takes 30 minutes, nope. It has taken hours to try and get this done. Thanks in advance for any advice you have. I will provide whatever info you need to troubleshoot this for me.

If yes, try to download the installer and install the Sp1: Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (KB976932) André"A programmer is just a tool which converts caffeine into code" Want to install RSAT on Windows 7 Sp1? Thanks, I tried this and it almost worked. Now I am getting this message: Error C000009A Applying update operation 1178710 of 334889 (\Registry\...) Additionally some of my Dell services are not working. Dell Dock, ToasterLauncher and GfxUI show that they have "stopped working." Unfortunately I am a novice at fixing these things and don't know how my computer got so screwed up by just trying to update it. Thanks, I hope to find some kind of solution for this short of reinstalling the OS and MS Office 2010. Signed, Frustrated in Florida

Hi, you have all language packs for Windows installed. Were you able to restore the PC to Win7 RTM? Use the control panel to remove all unneeded MUIs (Ms says 3-5 installed MUIs are ok) http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/error-C000009A-installing-windows-7-sp1 and after the reboot, install the Sp1. OK, the only restore point I can go back to is the last one where I tried unsuccessfully to install SP1. When I attempted to restore to that point I got an error saying that Windows could not complete the restore. (Frustrating) I then uninstalled the 8 MUI's I had installed and will retry. Unfortunately I still have no use of some Dell stuff especially my backup which would have eliminated this problem had I used it in the first place. (Hindsight is 20/20) During a registry scan by my virus software a couple errors were found and McAfee supposedly fixed them so I will try again and see what happens, then report back. Thank you for all your help, I sincerely appreciate it more than you know.

André: I can't thank you enough. After doing all I said above and McAfee fixing the registry errors my computer has been successfully updated with SP1. In fact, all the Dell items that were not working came back to life. (DellDock and Online Backup) I am going out today and buying an external hard drive that I will use for back up from now on. THis situation taught me a lesson I will not soon forget about backing up the OS and all my files. Again, I can't thank you enough!
