Windows 7 Update Errors - 80072EE2 and 80072F8F
Good Morning (Australian Time),I have attempted unsuccessfully to update my Windows 7 RC1 installation, I will post the full details here....- Windows 7 RC1 - x64bit- CPU: Intel Q8200 (Quadcore 2.33ghz)- RAM: 8gb- HDD Space: (collectively 4.5tb)Networking Configuration:- Primary Gateway: Cisco 2621XM router- Internal Schema: 10.10.10.x / 255.0.0.0 ip range- External Schema: ISP DHCP- Routing Type: NAT (anything from the 10.10.10.x requested an opening will be held open until the requestor closes, otherwise from the outside in there are static rules)As below, I bypassed the router and got the same two error codes.Error codes:80072EE2 - Which apparently is "Update is too busy"80072F8F - Your clock is wrongWhat have I done?- Tried the post that asked me to reregister all my DLLs with wuauserv, bits and cryptsrv (or similar) shutdown.- Disabled my router- Gone directly via 2 ISPs (bypassing routing etc just straight to modem which are in full bridge mode (one's cable one's adsl2)- Tried ensuring all current files are valid- Updated my system clock manually and via time.microsoft.comAny suggestions? I've tried everything.Jeff

I suggest you rename the folder SoftwareDistribution. Please refer the following article. KB958046 If the issue persists, please temporary disable or remove the anti-virus, anti-spyware and firewall. Then check the result again.Arthur Xie - MSFT

Hi Guys,I resolved the issue. I changed my DNS entries from my ISP to another ISP and it worked. I have since spoken to the ISP who informed me that there was dirty DNS entries for Windows Update in their DNS server which they purged as they had a number of complaints on their end about unable to update.I also implemented my own DNS server which if it does not know the answer it'll query out to an Open DNS server and the issue has since been resolved. This fix included errors:- 80072EE2- 80072F8FRegardsJeff

I had the same issue after just intalling from new shrink wrapped DVD of Windows 7 Ultimate. It seems for some reason the appropriate root certifcates for Windows Update were not installed. Or, something goes wrong if you install in a enterprise environment that pushes WSUS GPO/registry changes for Windows update. The fix was that I download and installed the XP root certificate updates (It is really bad form that there is no way around doing manual web page based updates in Windows 7 now, which is why I had to use the XP root certificate update). Once that was installed then Windows update has worked perfectly. If its not that, then it may be because you have to validate before downloading, it may fix a problem with geninue advantage install as part of validation. 5thSentinel

Had the error 80072F8F on Windows 7 Business. Installed the XP root certs then windows update worked great. Thank you!

Downloading the XP root certs also fixed my instance of this. Also noted that this installs the validation tool so unsure if this helps to "finalise" the validation of my windows 7 (Enterprise). I have also installed from the same DVD onto a virtual PC and did not have an issue with the updates, so a little wierd.

I think the one and only one solution to this problem is to reinstallation of the Windows 7. I had searched for many and more solutions regarding this when I encounter the same problem. But, can't able to find any particular solution about this. Then I made the reinstallation of the windows 7 and I am able to solve that particular error. Now, I have turn off my automatic updates, so that I don't get this error in future.

Simply start the Internet Settings from control panel, and add the "*.microsoft.com" to the secure places list in the security tab. Voila!!! The updates are working! Smith
