Windows 7 Ultimate and Services for NFS. Using map files
Hi all, Is there a map file function in Windows 7 similar to SFU for previous Windows versions? What I am looking to do is map a local user via a map file that is also on the local machine. In SFU (Services for Unix), I was able to define the map name and location. SFU had the ability to understand Unix style passwd and group files. I've noticed Services for NFS in Windows 7 Ultimate has some very similar features so I am hoping that using local passwd/group files for user name mapping is supported. I only have an OpenLDAP server and doubt that Windows 7 would interact with it as a mapping server, will it? :) Thanks in advance, - aurf

Hi, you must first enable support for NFS. Start - Run (or Win+R) - appwiz.cpl - Turn on or off Windows features - now find Services for NFS - check it and click OK.

Hi, I have NFS running and can mount fine. My question was regarding the use of map files vs a mapping server so that when I touch files on an NFS mount, they arne;t owned by nfsnobody but rather are mapped based on a map file. Do you know if Services for NFS supports map files like Services for Unix did? This was my question, and not how to get NFS installed and working on Windows 7.

Hi Sabrina, Thanks for the link. In the section below what does mapsvr mean, what is it and how do I configure one? Also, can I just use map files like I did in SFU vs a mapping server? To use User Name Mapping, type: nfsadmin mapping [ComputerName ] config maplookup=yes mapsvr= ServerName
