Windows 7 Ultimate Sending Username and Password to Webpage on Intranet
I have a webserver windows 2000 server SP4. On this box I have written a little webpage program to stream my music. Because this Webserver is open on the Internet the W2KSP4Server box requires a username and password to access these shares. In WinXP SP3 once I entered my username and password to access the shares on the webserver the program worked fine and would continue to play until I clicked stop. It did this on the Internet as well as the Intranet. Now using Windows 7 Ultimate Retail every time the program tries to connect I have to resend the username and password Internet or Intranet. The program is written so as when one song is done it refreshes and grabs another song to play randomly. All songs are on a share in the W2KSP4Server. The username and password is prefilled but I have to click OK each and every time it refreshes. Once I click OK it works fine but I want to try and find a way to not have to click OK when refreshed. Not sure if the problem is in Windows 7 or Windows 2000 SP4 but since it worked fine in XP I feel the problem is in Win7? I have the shares mapped and have the same problem as most people on Win7 that I have to click to start the shares on the W2KSP4Server when I boot the Win7 box. Once I do this I have full access to the shares through other programs and do not have to reenter username and password. Wondering if this is a Win7 problem or IE8 problem as well now that I think about it.

Hi, May I know if you are using Internet Explorer 8 in Windows XP SP3? If not, please also install Internet Explorer 8 and see if you will meet this issue. Based on my research, I would like to suggest the following: 1. Go to “Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Credential Manager” and add the credential here. 2. If you are using Intergraded Authentication, please also adjsut Internet Explorer security settings: 1) In Internet Explorer 8, click Tools and the click Internet Options. 2) In the Internet Options window, switch to the Security tab, click Local intranet and click Custom Level. 3) In the new-opened window, under “User Authentication - Logon”, please select “Automatic logon with current user name and password” and click OK to apply this setting. 4) Go back to the Security tab and also apply the setting “Automatic logon with current user name and password” in Internet Zone. 5) Then go back to the Internet Options window, switch to the Advance tab, under “Security”, ensure that the “Enable Intergrated Windows Authentication” item has been checked. 6) The click OK to apply all the settings and close Internet Explorer. 7) Try again to see if the prompt still appears. 3. Check you sever settings for this website authentication. Considering this issue is related to the webpage program you have designed, please also check this program and it is also recommended that you go to our MSDN forum for help: Microsoft Developer Network Forums Home Hope this helps.Nicholas Li - MSFT

Nicholas,Thanks for responding. I have resolved this issue. I had to look a couple of times to what it was trying to connect to. That's when I noticed that it was connecting to a website www....net even though this was an Intranet site. That's when it dawned on me that I needed to add to the Credential Manager the website and then my username and password to the webserver. When I did this it made it work. So thanks to you making me rethink the application and then adding the correct credentials for the application it now works.Ned
