Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 - Firewall won't start, BFE won't start, access denied
I think I had a case of the malware and after removing it via combofix/malwarebytes a few of my necessary services are broken. For example, I cannot start my windows firewall and I've traced that to being due to Base Filtering Service not being there. I imported the registry for the BFE and now the service is back, but I cannot start it as it says access denied. What should my next steps be to get the BFE service to start? It is set to run as a local service.

The command was processed successfully, but it did not fix my issue. In the case of something like this in Windows XP I would generally boot from the install disk and perform a repair, but that kind of option doesn't seem to exist for Windows 7. sfc /scannow doesn't find anything wrong I tried to start the BFE service and it gave the same error of Access Denied.

Hi, You could try to use the system startup repair from System Recovery Options: Startup Repair using Windows 7 installation disc. ---------------------------------------------- Note: Please ensure that the DVD-ROM is the first booting device. 1. Please insert the Windows 7 DVD and reboot the computer. 2. When we are prompted to press a key to boot from the DVD, please press Enter or the space bar. 3. Choose your language settings, and then click Next. 4. Click Repair your computer. 5. Select the operating system you want to repair, and then click Next. 6. On the System Recovery Options menu, click Startup Repair. Startup Repair might prompt you to make choices as it tries to fix the problem, and if necessary, it might restart your computer as it makes repairs. More information, you can refer to: Startup Repair After that, please check the issue again. To fix it I gave the BFE account on the local system full control to the registry key computer\hklm\system\currentcontrolset\services After that the BFE service would start and everything works. After scavenging the net I found someone woh had a similar issue and that is how he fixed it too.
