Windows 7 Ultimate Network Backup and restore issues
hello all. I am hoping someone here can help me. i am loosing it trying to get my backup and restore function to work from network. I have my external 1.5tb drive set to my desktop. i have all permissions and owners set to everyone. with all boxes checked. i can view this drive fine from my laptop. can access folders drag folders over no issues. i even made a complete backup on another drive and placed it on my external 1.5 of my laptop. seems every time i try to do a system backup to my external via my network it fails. i keep getting error 0x80070005 from what i see means access restriction. all my computers are part of my homegroup. when i setup location it asked me for credentials i just basically used my laptop name and password. as my desktop main pc of homegroup has no password. could this be issue? im not understanding how to setup with proper credential. can anyone help . i have tried another forum but all i get is links to google from those member. i have done and tried everything i come across to get this functioning correctly. it always fails around 91%.

Hello kaos, access to network drives using accounts without passwords may indeed cause problems. Create a user account on the desktop PC with the same name and password as the acount on the laptop and repeat the backup. Does it help? Ralf

i will try that in a few if my next attempt doesnt work. currently i added a password to my current admin account on my desktop. say the smiths I.E then i readded network location using \THESMITHS-PC\Current admin name then in password i used password for that account on desktop. right now its at 50% in backup. i can actually see the drive size decreasing as my laptop backup is running. I am hopping that fixes it as i never used server location in the beginning before the whole\THESMITHS-PC\Current admin name setting before.if its a no go i will try it with laptop name.
