Windows 7 Ultimate Blue Screen (intermittent)
Hello all, Since installing Win7 on my Dell XPS M1330, every few days I get an intermittent blue screen. Once was while the computer was in use, and several other times while it was “at sleep”. The blue screens seem to be happening more frequently lately. The system crashed both yesterday and today. The message I get when I reboot is always the same: ======== Message Begins Here ===== Problem Event Name: BlueScreen OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.1 Locale ID: 1033 Additional information about the problem: BCCode: 9f BCP1: 00000003 BCP2: 86429030 BCP3: 82F26AE0 BCP4: 8BC2C1D0 OS Version: 6_1_7600 Service Pack: 0_0 Product: 256_1 Files that help describe the problem: C:\Windows\Minidump\012010-18501-01.dmp C:\Users\rjtrede\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-41761-0.sysdata.xml ====== Message Ends Here ===== I have saved the Minidump files and the "sysdata.xml" files. I see no option to upload those file here, however. Any help you may offer to resolve this issue would be greatly appreciated. I did run Macfee cleanup earlier this evening (which, among other things, cleans orphan entries from the registry), but it's too soon to tell if it will be of any use. Many thanks, RJ

Upload the minidump files to the public folder at www.skydrive.com and afterwards post url to the upload here. Seems you probably did an upgrade from Vista and didn't install the correct drivers for your machine (if at all). Dell has Windows 7 32bit drivers for your laptop here Install the latest BIOS update. You may receive the following error: STOP 0x0000009F DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE This error occurs if drivers do not handle power state transition requests properly, usually during one of the following procedures: - Shutting down- Suspending or resuming from Standby mode- Suspending or resuming from hibernation To resolve the error and prevent the error from recurring, update or remove the offending driver. This error can occur because of a device driver, but it can also occur because of a file system filter driver (for example, a driver that is installed by an antivirus, remote control, or backup program). To isolate the driver that is causing the error, follow these steps: 1. Check to make sure that your computer and all installed devices are on the Hardware Compatibility List (HCL). 2. Check for drivers that are not designed for use with Windows. You can use the Sigverif.exe tool to do this. 3. Check for driver updates that may be available for your hardware. 4. Update any software that uses filter drivers (for example, antivirus, remote control, and backup software). 5. Remove any non-critical devices and software to help isolate the device or software that is causing the error.MCSE, MCSA, MCDST [If this post helps to resolve your issue, please click the "Mark as Answer" or "Helpful" button at the top of this message. The BOSD issue can be caused by many different factors, such as the drivers are not compatible with win7, the CPU temperture is too high, or there are virus or trojan. It’s better to upload your Minidump log to your public folder in the SkyDrive for analyzing. Please don't contain any personal information in it.At the same time, it's better to update the BIOS and drivers for your machine, you can get them from the Dell. After that, you can test again. If the issue still persists, please try to scan virus in the safe mode, and test if it would crush in safe. If your machine works fine in the safe mode, please test in Clean Boot, you can refer to KB929135. I hope this can help you.John

To solid troubleshoot this kind of kernel crash issue, we need to debug the crashed system dump and analyze the related source code if needed. Unfortunately, debugging is beyond what we can do in the forum. I'd like to recommend that you contact Microsoft Customer Support Service (CSS) for assistance so that this problem can be resolved efficiently. To obtain the phone numbers for specific technology request please take a look at the web site listed below: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;EN-US;PHONENUMBERS If you are outside the US please see http://support.microsoft.com for regional support phone numbers.

Hello Linda, Thanks for the reply. I had someone who knows how to do it analyze the mini-dump errors created by the blue screen. As it turned out, it was caused by the driver the driver netw5v32.sys . This driver belongs to the Intel Wireless WiFi Link Adapter driver. I also noticed Dell had issued a BIOS update on their site for my machine... so I did this: 1. Updated the BIOS from Dell. 2. Downloaded/installed the current netw5v32.sys driver from Intel. That seemed to solve the issue. It has been several days now with no more bluescreens. (Knock on wood.) For anyone interested in evaluating their own mini-dump files, I did go to the microsoft website and download their debugging tool. I ran the analysis myself after the fact and saw how it was done. The debugging tool can be found here: http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/devtools/debugging/default.mspx RJ
