Windows 7 Ultimate Background issues
Aloha all I'm having some minor issues after the recent installation of Win 7 Ultimate, the issue that I have is related to the Windows Desktop setting, if I set any of the settings available under ultimate the system works fine and I can see the desktop theme just fine, However after the system hibernates or even if I close the laptop the screen goes black....I can see all of the Icons in the desktop and I can use the laptop just fine....weider yet if I switch windows using aero I can see the background but If I go to the desktop it looks black....this happens no matter what desktop theme I set.... The only way that I can fix this issue is to log off and log back into the lap top and then I can see the desktop just fine with the selected theme.....These issues happen weather the system is connected to house power or running on batteries.... System Dell Inspiron 1525 with 2 Gigs of Ram and ATI video drivers, all drivers updated to current drivers. Any help will be appreciated. Aloha EM

By the way I have a feeling that this is an issue with my video Driver for the ATI card but I don't know what I can do to fix since I have the most current drivers for the card. EM

Hi, As you mentioned, it should be the video card driver problem. First, please make sure the latest ATI driver has been installed from Dell. Please also update BIOS and chipset. If the issue persists, try it in Clean Boot mode. In addition, you can also try the following steps: Lower the Resolution and Refresh Rate ========================= 1. Right click on the Desktop and choose Screen Resolution 2. Change it to a lower value 3. Click Advanced settings. 4. Click Monitor tab. 5. Change the refresh rate to a lower value. 6. Click OK. Change Power plan ============= 1. Click the Start Button, type "power options" (without quotation marks) in the Start Search box and press Enter. 2. Choose High Performance and click Change plan settings under High Performance. 3. Click Restore default settings for this plan and click Yea click Save changes.Vivian Xing - MSFT

Vivian Thanks for your response I appreciate it. The ATI card I have is a Radeon Xpress 1150, the refresh rate is at 59 Hz, I've played with the settings and changed the resolution as low as 800X600 and also updated the BIOS and Chip set to the latest releases from Dell. The only thing that I have tried is the clean boot. The system does work fine if I'm on high performance setting now....some how this is working ok. But If I have a power setting different to that one the screen goes black with all the desktop Icons still in it. I will try the Windows Clean Boot as shown in the M.S site and let you know if the problem is solved... Again mahalo (thanks) and Aloha! Regards EM
