Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit won't open my encrypted files.
Unfortunately, Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit won't open my encrypted files. I could open the files for a while. I have since attempted to setup Windows SBS 2011 Standard and I think this may have effected the client PCs files being unable to be opened. Where would a backup key be stored? How can I open the files? Please urgently assist. Answer in clear English. Cryptic answers not welcome. Hi, try to see here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Back-up-Encrypting-File-System-EFS-certificate I think you're logged in to the computer using domain account. You have to log in through the account, which is encrypted your file (probadly a local account).LC

Hi, What kind of encryption type do you use? As Ladislav Cermak says, I also guess you are using EFS. If so, you may use the account which originally encrypted the files to decrypt these files. Additionally, If you still cannot decrypt them, please refer to the following link to check the thumbprint of certificate. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itprogeneral/thread/a289cbbb-c711-4fe4-b4f8-049eedc074ca/ Regards, Juke TechNet Subscriber Support in forum If you have any feedback on our support, please contact tnmff@microsoft.com. Dear Juke, thank you for the reply. Sorry to be facetious however this remedy to the Microsoft issue is a bit like me...a lost cause. I will wait 20 years until some teen cracks the encryption as I don't have time to research this particular issue. Many thanks.Answer in clear English. Cryptic answers not welcome.
