Windows 7 Ultimate & Pro over Gigabit SBS2008 Network
Hi Guys, Looking for a little help with this one. We have two modern pc's, one running Windows 7 Ultimate the other Windows 7 Pro, we have a dell server using SBS2008, SAS 15,000 hard drives with 12GB memory. The users documents have been redirected to the server as have all the other PC's on Windows XP Pro. From time to time the windows 7 machines seem to loose the connection to the redirected folders and the redirected desktop icons dissapear (they come back after 2 to 3 mins), network access to other shares and folders seems unaffected it is just the redirected documents folders that loose connection. Is anyone else having the same issue or is there a fix to this unusual problem? I will say though that even though I like windows 7, network access is a lot slower and problematic than was with XP. Are there any Broadcom NIC or Intel NICs invlolved? Make sure TOE is disabled on them. http://blogs.technet.com/sbs/archive/2007/03/19/vpn-securenat-nat-and-outlook-clients-not-working-after-installing-windows-service-pack-2-in-sbs-2003-premium.aspx The link is about SBS 2003 but a similar problem exists for SBS 2008. Disable TOE in the driver properties of the NICs and see if the problem goes away. If it doesn't post back with what happened if anything? Kerry Brown MS-MVP - Windows Desktop Experience

Hi Kerry_Brown Thanks for your reply, sorry for my late reply but I have been busy with other projects and had to divert my attention from this issue. I followed your advise and this does not seem to have cured the problem. Network access is still slow and the redirected documents do seem to loose connection still, on a ramdom basis as well. I have checked the XP redirected documents and they seem fine it's just the windows 7 machines along with 2 vista machines. I am having this problem at two businesses where I have a virtually identical setup apart from the servers. Any other ideas or anything else I could look at, this has well and truly stumped me at the moment. Regards John

You may have to do the same thing on the clients as well. Are there any errors in the event logs on the server or the clients that may be related? Kerry Brown MS-MVP - Windows Desktop Experience
