Hi everybody,I just installed Windows 7 Professional (64bit) on my Computer. The Computer is connected to a Belkin Switch 2 KVM using USB keyboard and mouse. Everything worked fine. When I use the KVM to switch to my Laptop everything is ok, but if I try to switch back to the Windows 7 PC only the monitor works.The USB keyboard and mouse do not work until Ireboot the computer. It worked fine using the same hardware and Vista, so I suppose it is a USB Problem within Windows 7. If anyone has an idea how to solve this, this would be great.RegardsSteven

Hi, You may check if your switch is compatible with Windows 7 from the Windows 7 Compatible Center. You may also refer to Belkin Website to search for the firmware update and contact their support for the compatibility information. If they make sure this model of switch is fully compatible with Windows 7, you can update the BIOS and motherboard drivers first. If it does not work, I suggest you test the issue in Clean Boot. I'm having a similar issue. I'm using Belkin's F1DL102U (v1.1) KVM switch. I've been using this KVM switching XP/XP and XP/Vista with no problems. I just upgraded to Windows 7 (64bit) and my keyboard doesn't work after switching from the XP machine to the Win7 machine (when I switch back to the XP machine, it works just fine again). Unlike your issue, my mouse still works fine. I have my XP machine connected directly into my monitor's VGA connection and my Win7 machine into the DVI connection, so I am not switching the monitor via the KVM. When I boot up the Win7 machine, the keyboard works just fine, but once I switch away and back, no deal.So it's not just you, Steven.Thanks,Kevin

Same issue here, i have an Avocent DVI 2port KVM, using a G15 keyboard and a Gx1000 Lazer mouse (both logitech). I am using the USB "hub" that is built into the KVM because it fully supports the mouse and keyboards special features where as the 2 usb ports for keyboard/mouse do not on the switch. It always worked fine with Win 2k and Winxp, but now with Win7 when i switch back and forth keyboard stops working, but the mouse keeps working. I have noticed if i wait at the win7 system for a minute it pops up saying USB device has malfunctions and/or is not recognized. Also if i unplug and plug the keyboard back into the KVM the issue clears up (untill i switch again) and i can use the keyboard, however if i unplug the USB cable going from the KVM to the computer the issues does NOT clear up. I suspect it is some bad communications between the Avocent and Win7, but i am not sure what, i know win7 is doing something, but that does not mean that avocent couldn't put out afirmware to correct the issue. There is no new firmware YET for the KVM. btw same version of Win7 64bit release version (installed just a couple days after release)

I still have yet to figure out a solution to this, but i am 99.9% sure it is Microsoft's issue and a Windows 7 issue, i tested the KVM again with a 2k machine and a xp machine worked fine.. and then with 2 XP machines, and they worked fine... I refused to use Vista so i do not know if this issue existed under that OS. I keep hoping someone will stumble across this thread and have an answer/solution it is frustrating to have to unplug and replug the keyboard into the KVM 80% to 90% of the time when i switch computers.. every ONCE in awhile it works and actually detects the keyboard when switched back.. otherwise it just throws up a USB device not recognized error..

It had been tested and proofed in many cases. The issues was not caused by Windows 7 but the KVM switch which did not support full-time USB emulation or device mapping to connected Windows 7 systems. In order to sharing more "smart" USB devices (such as Multi-touch touch-screen display, gaming mouse/keyboard, Wacom tablets or other tablets ...etc.), Windows 7 requests and checks the USB connection status frequently. So, if your KVM switch did not support function , so called Dynamic Device Mapping (DDM), then you will not having problems with USB mouse/USB keyboard not work/found issue. I tested a special version of KVM switches at my labs and found those DDM-embeded switch did solve the problems most Windows 7+KVM users experienced - USB HID devices (not limited to just USB keyboard and USB mouse) not working with KVM switch. Microsoft is not responsible for hardware manufacturers to develop hardware to be compatible with their operating system and leave it to them to supply the firmware and drivers to make their equipment compatible. ummm wait... so Windows 7 did not cause the issue except it never happened under any other operating system except Windows 7?? I some how suspect that there IS a connection there, albeit may simply be windows 7 implementing new technology that we as end users can't disable therefor nullifying many many current KVM implementations. I still have yet to find a resolution to this issue, besides the constant call from microsoft and even other end users to "buy a new kvm", which if you wish to mail me a nice new one that supports DVI 1080P resolutions i would be more than happy to accept it, otherwise i am just disappointed in Microsoft and the response of "get new hardware" which seems to be a cop out *chuckle*.

I have the same problem as the others posting on this thread.I too had the exact same setup working with WinXP.The weird thing is, once the mouse and/or keyboard randomly stop working with Windows7, I cannot connect any other mouse or peripheral.It seems like the USB controller is messed up and not properly reset by Windows 7.I would like to reiterate, this is not a hardware problem and never had it prior to installing Windows 7 (x64).When I switch back to WinXP, it works perfectly.

Hi Steven, I realize that a lot of time has passed since you originally posted this, however I too have recently experienced the same issue with the Belkin switch2.I have a windows 7 64bit desktop and a windows 7 32bit laptop. - when switching to and from the laptop everything remained to function without any problems, but the desktop did the exact same thing as you have seen. I (at first) put this down to a difference in the 64bit version of windows 7. After numerous restarts, I realized that my laptop could be fine as there is a mouse and keyboard attached at all times (as it's a laptop), I decided to find an old USB mouse I had lying around, and plug it directly into my desktop PC. After switching to and from it the mouse and keyboard attached to the switch2 continued to work, I assume this is due to there always being a mouse present and functional? I know this is not a solution per say, but perhaps worth a try, a cheap USB mouse to potentially fix those hours of annoyance! Hi Chris,This really looks interesting. Unfortunately this did not work for me. I only found an USB mouse, so I used this mouse and an old PS2 keyboard. Again, switching from the Win7 64 bit to the Vista worked, but the opposite direction did not. One interesting aspect is that after I switch back to Win7 the additional USB mouse does not work as well, even if I unplug it and plug it in again. So at the moment I see no option to get it to work. It might be that Windows 7 is working according to standards, but it still is the only OS I know not working with the switch. Of course the problem could be solved by buying a new KVM compatible with Win7, but this is an answer I would have found without posting to a forum ;) Anyway thanks for the idea, sadly it did not work for me. So it seems I will have to buy a new KVM, which the I guess will not work with the next version of windows ;) Regards Steven

You sir, are a genius! I have agonized for hours on this problem, with countless reboots. My problem was BOTH the mouse and keyboard. In my case both Win 7 and XP worked fine through my Belkin Flip, UNTIL an handfull of automated hotfixes ran on Oct 15 2010. Since then, Win 7 was OK, XP no keyboard or mouse (even if I booted while active on the KVM). I just hooked up wired cheapy keyboard and mouse directly to the XP box, and now my wireless keyboard and mouse work through the KVM. Thanks!!

Wow, that is a great workaround! This issue has been *really* bothering me for about 4 months since I bought Windows 7. Every few times I would switch to my other computer on the KVM and then switch back to Windows 7, it would behave like this. My mouse would still respond but it was extremely sluggish as if the computer was running at 100% cpu and there wasn't enough horsepower left to deal with the mouse etc. Everything became extremely slow and unresponsive at times. Now, when I plug in another keyboard and mouse and leave those off to the side, my main keyboard/mouse (ie. the one through the KVM) continues to be responsive, which is really great. Now I don't have to reboot every time this happens! Thanks Ray

Ray, I see that you use another set of Keyboard and mouse connected directly to the the Windows 7 system to prevent the keyboard and mouse of your KVM switch from mis-behaving. However, this solution seemed to defeat the purpose of having a KVM switch. There are three kinds of USB KVM switches in the market now. All the cases we discussed here are either using "USB-Hub" based KVM switch or "Emulated-USB" based KVM switch. The only reason these two kinds of USB switches caused the shared keyboard or mouse mis-behaving or compatible is that both types cause HPD (Hot-Plug Detection) error when switching between/among share channels/systems. The other type of USB KVM switch technologies is USB Dynamic Device Mapping (DDM) switch - which is the only type of KVM switch does not cause HPD error when switching. As not just regular keyboard or mouse will be shared, the demands of having DDM type USB KVM switch will be getting stronger.

I have the same problem. I had a Dell Dimension 4600 desktop with Windows 7 32 bit and a Dell Latitude D430 laptop also with Windows 7 32 bit. My Belkin KVM F1DK-102U worked fine. I swapped the desktop for a Dell XPS 7100 with Windows 7 64 bit and now the switch wont go back to it. Its fine at boot but if you switch to the laptop (works fine) and then switch back to the XPS the mouse and keyboard dont work. The monitor does work. I tried disabling USB Selective Suspend to no avail. Help please - whats different in 64 bit? Simon

Simon, What USB keyboard and mouse you're using with this setup ? All hardware devices need 64-bit drivers to work on a 64-bit version of Windows . Drivers designed for 32-bit versions of Windows don't work on computers running 64-bit versions of Windows . You may want to check if the keyboard and mouse you use having /need 64-bit version drivers. Rex

Hello My problem is somehow similar but there are some more weird things added. In my case I was switching between a XP 32 bit laptop and a XP 32 bit desktop and everything worked ok. Then I upgraded my desktop with Windows 7 64 bit (two weeks ago) and everything kept working fine for one week until today. Today things are mixed up: My monitor shows the laptop screen while the mouse and keyboard control the desktop, when I switch, then the monitor shows the desktop screen while the mouse and keyboard control the laptop. Yes, this is very weird and have not changed any of the existing connections since last time when this was working perfectly (just installed some programs and added some printers in the last day). Any suggestion would be welcomed. By the way is there any firmware update available for this belking switch2? Thanks
