Windows 7 UAC Exceptions for specific programs
Hi, Good day. I just want to ask how to setup Win 7 UAC to allow specific third party programs and games to run without being prompted by UAC. I don't want to remove UAC completely for non-administrator user accounts but I need to let these accounts run specific programs without being obstructed by UAC. Thanks!

You have to use the task scheduler. Follow my guide here and create a task for every game, application you want to run: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=135472 best regards André"A programmer is just a tool which converts caffeine into code" CLIP- Stellvertreter http://www.winvistaside.de/

André As a hack it works but it's pretty ugly and doesn't work when you want to double click the file to open it. For example I use Foxit PDF viewer to view PDF files which I frequently receive. I usually just double click the file to view it but this hack won't get round that. Is there a more elegant solution available from Microsoft? Thanks

Foxit reader doesn't trigger a UAC prompt by deafult. It doesn't require admin rights. Have you selected "Run as administrator" in the Compatibility opetion of Foxit Reder? If es, remove the setting."A programmer is just a tool which converts caffeine into code" CLIP- Stellvertreter http://www.winvistaside.de/

Foxit triggers UAC, if you allow it to register itself as standard reader for PDF. It does not, if you right click PDF and assign Foxit in the Open With menu as default application (and deny its own request for self register). If Admin Credentials popup is denied, it then starts to create processes to register itself until you logoff or manage to kill the current task(s) with taskkill. Side effect is a flickering mouse cursor. Best greetings from Germany Olaf

Foxit triggers UAC, if you allow it to register itself as standard reader for PDF. Hallo Olaf, das ist mir klar ;) Seine Antwort sagt, dass er immer den UAC Dialog bekommt, da stimmt etwas nicht. English: sure, if you wan't to define a standard toll you must have admin rights. So the UAC dialog is shown. from what I see he gets the UAC dialog everytime. There is something wrong. How come we can't get exceptions for UAC? Just like in the firewall, it would make things so much easier, and you would compromise security at your own risk. I don't see the big difference. The only option to get rid of 40 UAC messages daily is turning it off, so if you're a sys admin or similar, you have to do without this wonderful tool, based on a "We know what's best for user security" I have like 5000 forum hits on exception for UAC, and everyone agrees it would be a nice addition. Having to battle UAC at every turn, along with administrative rights on backup drives is doing my head in. A simple solution like this would go a long way to me actually loving Windows 7. Or you could simply remove exceptions on the firewall, instead of leaving us with a good tool, then we can all turn it off, and use some halfwit software firewall that don't know left from right..... Finally we could turn it all off, and buy a Mac. Is Microsoft not the least bit interested in our opinion, then i'll just remove this security proven software and install my insecure trusty XP pro instead. Back then MS actually trusted us to know what we're doing. Sorry for ranting, but i spend an awful lot of time everyday as an IT pro battling these restrictions, and noone seems to be willing to pay me for the time i use!

There is no reason why foxit should run with admnisitrator rights. It is a bug. Workaround: Right click on a foxit shortcut, select properties, then compatibility, then change for all users, then uncheck run this program as administrator.

Hello. I need to use program Mydic (dictionary). If i turn UAC off it works fine. In other cases "Run time error '70':Permission denied". I tried to run as administrator, use task scheduler, place program on nonsystem disk, but still got the error.
