Windows 7 System Requirements - for the 70-680 test
I am studying for the 70-680 test. I have found that the system requirements for Windows 7 seem to change depending on where you ask (or read). The Self Paced book from Microsoft says (on page 5):Starter and Basic1 Ghz 32 bit or 64 bit processor512 MB of RAM20 (x64) or 16 (x86) hard drive with 15 gig availGraphics adaptor supporting Direct X 9 and 32 Meg of Graphics RamPremium, Professional, Ultimate, and Enterprise:1 Ghz 32 bit or 64 bit processor1 Gigof RAM40 GBhard drive with 15 gig availGraphics adaptor supporting Direct X 9, WDDM, Pixel Shader 2.0, and 32 bits per pixle and min 128 Graphics RamOn page 22 (lesson review)it contradicts itself and says that Premium, Professional, Ultimate and Enterprise only need 20 GB HD.Microsoft Web page says:1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor 1 gigabyte (GB) RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit) 16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit) DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driverLooks like a few differences to me (in the RAM and Hard drive area). Which is the one I should knowfor the test? There are a few different versions. Is there some sort of errata or addendum for the Self-Paced 70-680 book which lists any errors known in the printing? Please help.

Starter and Basic isn't available except in certain markets.Starter is available by OEM's for netbooks only.I would go for what the web page says. Your not taking the test for a snapshot in time (when the book was printed) but for the ongoing development of technology.

Hi Chakotay2, First, you need to know that the Starter edition and Basic Edition of Windows 7 is designed for entry level PCs and available only in certain regions. Some features such as Aero Glass,Personalization features for changing desktop backgrounds, window colors, or sound schemes and the ability to switch between users without having to log off and etc are not integrated on these two special editions. Therefore, the system requirements on these two editions are lower than the ones on Windows 7 Home Premium, Professional, Ultimate, and Enterprise edition. In addition, I found that the Microsoft Web Page you referred should be the following one. http://windows.microsoft.com/systemrequirements As the requirements mentioned on the Self-Paced 70-680 book, it requires 15GB free space of 40GB so that you can run Windows 7 smoothly. In addition, a 64-bit PC can handle larger amounts of information than a 32-bit system. Since it can use more RAM4 GB and upa 64-bit computer can be more responsive when you're running lots of programs at once. Therefore, these requirements are just reasonable. If you would like to take Windows 7 test, it is better to refer to the requirements provided on the book. In addition, if you still have concerns on the books, you can contact book publisher via the following link. http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/training/format-books-support.aspx Hope helpful!

Actually, a lot of the features are still in Starter, such as creating a P2P network, but the Control Panel and other menus don't show them. You just need to know the proper file name.Fr Elise - Support the Heart & Breast Cancer Foundations. http://www.amazon.com/Gospel-Our-Lord-Jesus-Christ/dp/1449947565/ref=sr_1_15?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1265754374&sr=1-15
