Everytime I start my Windows 7 Pro laptop it hangs for a short while with the message "setup is updating registry settings". How can I stop this from happening?

Just wait, it will finish eventually. There is no way to stop it. You might have some program that is not fully compatible with Wiindows 7 that is causing Windows to check the registry.
