Windows 7 Startup
Everytime I start my Windows 7 Pro laptop it hangs for a short while with the message "setup is updating registry settings". How can I stop this from happening?

Just wait, it will finish eventually. There is no way to stop it. You might have some program that is not fully compatible with Wiindows 7 that is causing Windows to check the registry. Vote if answered or helpful, I am running for Office (joke)! IT/Developer, Windows/Linux/Mainframe Need a some parts finish the new server, see the site for remaining items needed

Also, try updating the BIOS, devices drivers to the latest version to check the result. If the issue persists, could you please let us know when did the issue first occur? Did it occur after installing certain software or changing some hardware? How was Windows 7 installed? A clean installation or it was preinstalled by the laptop manufacturer?

Hi, Do check the programmes started up with windows. Autoruns - a free programme. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx I'd suggest to perform a clean boot. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135 Another item responsible for erratic starting up may be your antivirus. Try to read the logs in your eventmanager to find out what's going on. Right now you do not supply a lot of data for us to work with. Cheers Rem
