Windows 7 Slow on logon.
hi, Some windows 7 machine on our network take 45 minutes to 1 hour to show ctrl alt del. I think its something to do with IP6 but i been told it has been disable in our network. Can some please let me know why this would be happening. We are using Server 2003 STD R2 32Bites(Domain controller), Server 2008 STD R2 64Bites, Windows 7 64Bites enterprise. Thank you.

You can disable ipv6 on affected machines but i doubt that would be the problem. Do you use GPOs for software installations? My guess would be that one or more of the GPOs has probably failed and it is trying to install the software over and over again. Check the even viewer and see what kind information you find there.

I have disble IPV6 on effected machine but still same thing.. We do use GPO. I Will check the event logs on effect logs. Do you know anything else which might cause this. My machine takes 30 sec to loan where other user takes an hour. we are in same office. same network mask.

IPV6 will not slow down a machine--contrary to popular belief. Your issue is probably related to mandatory GPO settings that is applied to the computer. Depening on your network setup and bandwidth, this can take some time. Another thing to consider is the number of domain controllers servicing your domain. If you have a single domain controller trying to authenticate several hundred machines and users behind a single 1 GB backbone, you will be in for a world of hurt.

When I remove network cable, it startup fine. I have disable IPV6 and apply windows 7 patch which was given to me by someone else. It is starting fine now. I dont think it would be do with IPV6 but well. Hi Leo, If I start in Safe mode it works fine some time and sometime it takes 10-20 minutes. I have made changes i will update this site later to let you guys know the results.

In order to narrow down the issue, I suggest to temporary remove the domain and let Windows 7 machine work alone to see if the same issue occurs. · Also logon with Safe Mode to check the result. · And check "Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon" policy is disable under Computer Configuration/Administrative Templates/System/Logon in the Group Policy.
