Windows 7 Service Pack 1 error with Faronics Deep Freeze...
I am a high school teacher managing a computer lab at a high school. We have DeepFreeze 7.00 running on brand new computers running Windows 7 Professional. I was in my lab working today [yes, on a Sunday] and the computers found an "Important Update". I rebooted the computers in "Thawed Mode" and installed the updates. Upon restarting, it came up and said that it was installing Service Pack 1 and [obviously] was installing "Stage 1 of 2". The problem is that when the computer restarted, it went back to "Frozen" mode so after "Stage 1 of 2" finishes, it restarts and begins "Stage 1 of 2" again. And again. And again. I'm in an endless loop now because I can't access Windows to turn off DeepFreeze (put it in Thawed mode again), nor do I know how to cancel the Service Pack. I did go into "Safe Mode" and it discovered that the Service Pack did not complete, so it did a "Revert" -- however Deep Freeze set it back and it's right back to the endless loop. SOMEBODY please help. I have classes coming in tomorrow and we're about to have a week of projects in my "Projects in Computers" classes... but we don't have computers.

AskGriff, in the stage 1 of 2, are you able to get to the Faronics Deep Freeze menu / tray icon. If so you should be able to unthaw that way...

charlesdeanda I am having the same problem as AskGriff. I was trying to install 7 service pack 1 as well as other updates but they sort of didn't go well and then I restarted the computer without thawing it. Now I'm stuck in a bootloop. I would be very grateful if you could help me get out of this problem. sam

I am very sorry that I replied so late. I hardly every check this email account. I will have it forward to my main account from now on. The botton line is that Faronics has to send you a rescue file called: DeepFrz.sys (make sure you specify to them whether your system is 32 or 64 bit) You will need to either access your pc's hard drive by using a boot cd or connect it to another computer. 1. Cut paste the original deepfrz.sys driver located in the Faronics folder to your desktop and place the one Faronics sends you on the Faronics folder. 2. Reboot and press F8 while booting and select Reboot disabling Unsigned drivers 3. Replace the temp driver with the original DeepFrz.sys driver 4. Boot selecting Boot Windows Normally 5. Reboot Thawed again selecting Boot Normally 6 Uninstall Deep Freeze (it will reboot by itself while uninstalling) 7 Reboot in Normal Mode 8 Install Deep Freeze again if needed.

Charles, Just got into the same problem :( The 2nd part of the update (which occurs upon reboot) causes an infinite boot loop. I can't get out of it. Please help. igoy71@yahoo.com Thanks in advance. Igoy

Hi charlesdeanda, I know this thread is already 4 months old but I need to know what to do with the same problem. One of those who responded above said he did not get any answers so he reinstalled Win 7 from disk and recovered the data from windows.old This recovers the data but not the installed programs. I think the mistake we did why we have this problem in the first place is that we had the thawed setting for 1 reboot and did not anticipate that windows update will do a reboot after its configuration when it rebooted after the update. This entails 2 reboots instead of 1 which we set in deep freeze. I imagine this is as common error among deep freeze users so there must be a solution out there... Please share your solution.
