Windows 7 Service Pack 1 - Multiple Reboots Needed Post-Installation
I administer a WSUS 3.0 server in an organization with Windows 7 clients. After deploying Windows 7 SP1 to several machines via WSUS, users are reporting problems with various applications like Oracle PeopleTools (specifically App Designer), PeopleSoft
nVision Drilldown, and Captaris Alchemy Gold. Rebooting the affected machines once or twice solves the end users problems, though.
Has anybody experienced this type of behavior with any applications (not just the ones listed above)? In auditing several machines, I do see that the SP1 installation does trigger a reboot, so I would think another reboot to be unnecessary. If
anybody has any suggestions or shares in the experience, I'd appreciate hearing from you.

Hi Ignatius Loyola,
Thanks for posting in TechNet forum.
What's the problem with those applications? Try a
Clean Boot to check if the issue still there.
As a test, you can put a problematic machine in a single OU and do not apply any group policy to check the result.
In addition, are there any related logs about those applications in Event Viewer? Or are there any updates or patches of those applications were installed?

Miya

Miya,
Thanks for the response. Regarding the applications, they won't launch on machines that had SP1 delivered via WSUS until after a reboot. The applications were not patched or updated recently.
End users have not indicated that they've had any further problems, so reboots seem to have solved the problem.

Hi Ignatius Loyola,
Thanks for the update.
Since the applications have no issue after restart, it's hard to find the reason. I will change this thread type to Comment in order to involve more community members to discuss this topic. There might be similar situations as yours.
