Windows 7 Security Pop-ups
I'm planning on upgrading to Windows 7 in the next few months and all of applications seem to run fine except for one little quirk. We are running an ancient version of PeopleSoft (8.0) which is web-based with no local installation. It has a capability called nVision that opens a copy of Excel on your desktop and loads nVision report data into Excel. When running it on Windows 7 with IE8, it pops-up a Windows Security box that wants me to log onto the domain again (2003 domain here). If I choose to log on, it will ask me 2 more times to logon and then bring up the spreadsheet. IF I chose to Cancel, it will also bring up Excel with the report. Why is Windows 7 doing this? I tried setting UAC to low to see if that affected the behavior but there was no difference. In IE8, I set Intranet security to low and added the PeopleSoft server. That also did not make a difference. It makes no sense to require me to logon 3 times in order to get to the report AND to get there with a cancel. It is illogical. Any ideas of how to make it stop?

I wonder, because this PeopleSoft (8.0) is web based & you're intitially viewing/extracting the data from a website, if it would reduce this security request by adding the website to your trusted sites in IE?

I did that and it did not make a difference.

I take that back, I was thinking of intranet sites. I cannot add the server rto trusted sites becuase it does not respond to https only http.

The program may use NTLM during the authentication. Because the default NTLM authentication levels in Windows 7 and Windows Server 2003 are different, issues may occur during the authentication. I suggest you change the NTLM level in Windows 7. To do so, please: 1. Click Start, in the Start Search box enter “gpedit.msc” 2. Navigate to Computer Configuration->Windows Settings->Security Settings->Local Policies->Security Options. 3. In the right pane, find "Network Security: LAN Manager Authentication Level" and double-click it. 4. Change the setting from "Send NTMLv2 response only" to "Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session if negotiated"Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. That option is grayed out and cannot be changed on the PC even when I run gpedit.msc as administrator. I am a domain admin so I am an administrator on this box. Is ther another way to get to there with the ability to change the setting?

Let me add that I also tried it logged on as administrator and as the user ID that built the PC. The setting is grayed out for those logons as well.

Have you configured this policy via GPO from domain controller? If so, I suggest you change the policy there. If it does not work you may also change the two policies Network security: Minimum session security for NTLM SSP based (including secure RPC) servers/client, please uncheck the “Require 128bit” option. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Sorry it took so long to get back to you - got pulled off on other things. I ran gpedit on a domain controller and Lan manager was set to Send LM & NTLM Responses already and was also grayed out. On the two network security options, they already had Requires 128-bit unchecked.

Never did. I'm just living with it. Ran out of time to fight with it.
