Hi, I have an issue I'm looking for some advise on. My system is failing to install some updates for a while now. Specifically Win 7 SP1 (however I think other security updates have failed). I am getting error 800b0100 very shortly after I start the installer. I'm running Win 7 Ultimate x64, and I have tried installing from both Windows Update and a downloaded exe (I might have tried the iso too, but it's been a while). I'm using MSE as the AV product. I have done all the normal things as follows: SFC /scannowRan the System Update Readiness Tool (v20)Ran chkdsk (no errors, didn't do a /f though)Used MSconfig to disable non-MS Services and disabled the startup tasks. Here is the screenshot of my file test and it's permissions. I expect the next suggestion I will get is an inplace upgrade, but I was hoping to resolve this issue to gain the understanding of the problem. Give try the following procedure: 1. Start installation from W 7 x64 installation medium, but instead of clean installation click on UPGRADE. This will remove Internet Explorer 9 2. Expand SP 1 and install it manually. Regards Milos

As I mentioned, I was hoping not to use the Inplace Upgrade option if I can avoid it. That fixes the issue now, but if I use some software that causes the problem to re-occur I'm no further ahead. Does IE need to be removed for this to work? Would a manual uninstall of IE work? (I thought I had raid some issue about IE9 causing an issue, is this the thought)? I have expanded the SP file, do I need to run spinstall.exe (or do I need to run the spreview.exe first)? Thanks, Alan

Hi, Please understand that the default IE version in Windows 7 is 8. As a result, IE9 will be removed during performing In-placed Upgrade. However, IE9 is not the root cause of your SP1 installation problem. If you encounter this issue in the future, please feel free to paste the issue on Forum again.Kim Zhou TechNet Community Support

So the only suggestion is the inplace upgrade? How do I know I won't be recreating the same issue without knowing the cause? It seems to me like patching a ceiling with water damage. If you don't fix the leak first, your looking for problems and will just need to keep fixing it.
